The Knicks and Clippers are engaged in talks for a deal that would send guards Iman Shumpert and Raymond Felton to Los Angeles in exchange for Darren Collison, according to a report Wednesday afternoon from Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports.

Negotations between the two organizations are still in the early stages despite the 3 p.m. Thursday trade deadline. The potential move, however, is the latest Knicks attempt to move Shumpert, who has clashed with head coach Mike Woodson this season and has fallen out of the rotation on several occasions. According to Wojnarowski, the Knicks remain steadfast in their efforts to replace Felton with more of a playmaker.

POINT FORWARD: Latest trade buzz around NBA

According to Wojnarowski, Shumpert is “an object of interest” for head coach Doc Rivers, especially because Chris Paul has returned from injury, diminishing the demand for Collison on a nightly basis. Meanwhile, the 23-year-old Shumpert, who made the NBA All-Rookie First Team in 2012, is seen as a player who can compliment Redick and Jared Dudley on the wing.

Felton is averaging a career-low 10.3 points on 40 percent shooting and 5.8 assists this season. Shumpert is currently averaging seven points and 4.5 rebounds in 26 minutes per game for New York. Collison has $1.9 million remaining on his deal this season with the Clippers, with a player option for $1.9 million next season. In 56 games this season for Los Angeles, the 26-year-old is averaging 10.1 points and 3.6 assists.

The Knicks are 20-33 heading into the second half of the season and would miss the playoffs if they began today. The Clippers are currently the No. 4 seed in the Western Conference, with a 37-19 record to start the second half of the season.
