Cowboys win coin flip against Ravens for No. 16 pick in draft

After three straight 8-8 seasons, every game seems like a coin flip for the Cowboys. This time, Dallas came out on top.

Because the Cowboys and Ravens both finished 8-8 and had a .484 strength of schedule, a coin flip was needed to separate their draft positioning, which Dallas won Wednesday morning in Indianapolis — the site of this weekend’s scouting combine — according to Kevin Patra of NFL.com.

BURKE: NFL mock draft 3.1

The Cowboys will pick 16th in the first round, and the Ravens will select 17th.

The coin did not have a heads or a tails — each side had a team logo — thus neither team made a call before the toss, according to Patra.

This is the third time in four seasons that the Cowboys will enter the draft with a pick in the top half of the first round, according to ESPN.com’s Jamison Hensley.

Could someone please explain why in the world this is a front-page SI.com story?  Is the universe supposed to come to a halt until we all know which team wins the coin flip to determine who gets the all-important SIXTEENTH pick in the first round?  Jeez.

Ive been a die hard fan for 30 years.  Everyone blames Jerry Jones, thats fine.  But if you can honestly say they dont field a talented team, you are a fool.  Witten is clearly going to Canton, Ware will be there one day as well.  Its the coaching that absolutely sucks beyond belief.  That falls to Jones.  To say he cant draft though, thats not the case.

I am a bit confused. If the cowboys are picking 16th why does the mock draft 3.1 have them in the 23rd slot in the first round?

I'm disappointed in you, Roger.  You should've had a normal coin, heads/tails, and had someone from a team call it, best two-of-three.  Then you could televise it and charge extra for the "premium package," where someone interviews Jerry to ask him about his coin flip-call strategy.

Can they take down that picture of Jones? He looks like the poster boy for AIDS.

It's not really "winning" when you are a chronic overdrafter. In fact, they lose because they will have to pay their 1st rounder slightly more than the Ravens will.

None of this will matter...  the idiot from Arkansas is still making the decisions for the team.

He needs to have the surgeon loosen up on the facelift and cut back on the chemical peel. Starting to resemble Freddy Krueger.

@Jaime76244  Somebody should be fired. An unexpected close up of the crypt-keeper could cause serious medical issues for those with weak hearts... or stomachs.
