Boston Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz said he is in no hurry to get a contract extension done with the team as he prepares to play the final season of his contract, but says he is tired of the critics who complain about him talking about his status.

Ortiz is scheduled to make $15 million this season after hitting .309 with 30 homers and 103 RBI, and leading Boston to its third World Series title in the past 10 seasons.

Ortiz went on a expletive-laden tirade in which he explained that he is not asking for a top salary like some players who are making twice what he does.

“I don’t even know why they’re bitching about me talking about contracts,” Ortiz said, via the Boston Herald. “Guys putting up my numbers, they’re making $25, $30 million. I’m not asking for that. I’m asking for half of it. And they’re still bitching about it? [Expletive] them. I’m tired of hearing them talk [expletive] about me when I talk about my contract. Hey, every time I talk about my contract, I earn it, [expletive]. So don’t be giving me that [expletive].”

Ortiz also said he is only looking for a one-year deal, contrary to multiple media reports.

“The bottom line is, people like that, you just don’t pay attention to them,” Ortiz said. “It’s a small group, and yeah, they’re the ones who like to bring negativity and talk trash, but nobody knows what it takes for a guy like me to do what I do.”

In 2014 a player who is fat, slow, and can only function as a DH wouldn't make his way through the minor league ranks. He'd top out in high A ball and then change oil for a living. Even the slobs of today such as Ruf in Philly and Adams in St. Louis can play a corner OF, not Ortiz. I repeat what I said before. A player with his skill set would NOT make it through the ranks and make the majors if he was 19 years old. .

Everyone complaining about Ortiz and PEDs; let it go. We will never know how many players are actually clean and honestly, how many of you would have tried to beat the system if it meant you could sign a contract for $80 - $100 million? If you say no, then I am pretty sure you are not telling the truth.

PEDs happened; it is part of the game and now all we can do it try to clean up the game. Funny thing is that you hear nothing about football, hockey or basketball players and PEDs. How sure are we that NONE of them have cheated? We do not know and I bet there are more out there then we know.

Bonds cheated, but never tested positive. Clemens did as well and never tested positive. We all loved what Sosa and McGwire did 1998 and if it was happening now I bet we would love it as well.

Back to Ortiz, I am a Red Sox fan and I am annoyed that we even have to hear about this. I can see his point, the Sox have never really given him security with a long term contract. At the same time how many people make millions? I really wish he would shut up and play. Actions speak louder than words.

His contract status is a less important issue than whether he took PEDs, along with 100 other players or more whose names have not been revealed.

This guy is an [expletive] hole.  You're an old, one trick pony who is being propped up by PED's.  Learn how to speak a few words of English without the use of profanity.

If I was getting paid $20 million a year to DH, people could talk all the **** about me they wanted.

Mr. Ortiz,

Actually some people do( Expletive) realize "what it takes for a guy like (you) to do what (you) do."

It is called (Expletive) Performance Enhancing Drugs.

Well, if Ortiz wasn't playing baseball, he'd probably be a working-poor slob in the Dominican Republic or an illegal immigrant cleaning dishes in a SoHo restaurant.

I'd say he has much to be thankful for.

The fact that he never stops moaning about his contract (the guy is a multi-gazillionaire) indicates that he has absolutely no sense of reality.

He's a chump.  He only has to do half the work anyway.  YOUR A DH YOU UGLY ROID SLOB.  SHUT YOUR MOUTH AND SWING THE BAT BECAUSE THAT IS ALL YOU DO.

To all you little haters on here...1: Ortiz is worth the money being the most dominant DH in the game..2: has he been found guilty of any wrong doing regarding PED's?? NO.  3: World series MVP and Champions  Bee otches!!   Suck it!!

@MrArlington hopefully you make the same post reiterating that ortiz wouldn't make it through the minors in 2014 as a new player.

@MrArlington  There is always hope when cows like Pedro Alvarez and Pablo Sandoval play 3B. Same with Fielder, he's the size of a full grown hippopotamus and he's effective.

Seriously they make this guy out to be one of the faces of baseball, and his constituents drool over how great a guy he is..If I was able to dial up a 92mph+ heater I would love to brush his sorry A$$ of the plate. He stands on top of the plate and gets away with murder because everyone "loves him". I pray for another Roided up guy like Clemens or a few screws loose setup man just buries the heater underneath that double chin neck  just enough to knock him down. Once that happens he will respect the plate and hit 10 less homers and be worthless DH garbage..Then these SI articles will never be relevant until he gets busted with a failed drug test.

@6marK6  Says the clown who lives in mommy's basement and works part time at Burger King. If you had the career and self-esteem he had, you wouldn't stand for sh!te...

@GaloofvonDorkmeister  Ahh, because anyone from another country would be dirt poor if they hadn't been saved by their talent, and America. What a racist, idiotic comment.

@carjax1202  First of all: NO ONE IS WORTH THAT KIND OF MONEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No one.

But especially not anyone playing a child's game for a living.

Second, chill out with the insults. You have a Red Sox logo as your avatar so you will be held to a higher level of decency. If you want to swear and insult people, switch your avatar to a Devil Rays logo...

@carjax1202 You know he really did test positive for PED's.  It's not some conspiracy, so you sound like an idiot stating otherwise.

@Joebuckster @6marK6  If Ortiz had self esteem, he'd realizes he's made hundreds of millions of dollars and shouldn't need to keep complaining about his contract.

Joebuckster

@GaloofvonDorkmeister @carjax1202  Actually, if someone much smarter and richer than you thinks people are worth that kind of money, and gives it to them, then they are. You're just a suck because you're not worth any kind of money.

DanaBunner

@Yanks2009 @carjax1202There is no proof that he tested positive for PEDs.  All we have is a leaked report that he was on a list of 103 players who tested positive for something in 2003.  They have never confirmed the positive test and have never disclosed what it was that he tested positive for.  And he has passed every PED test given to him over the past 10 years.  Outside of this, it is all speculation.

BryantO
BryantO

@Yanks2009 @carjax1202  No, he was one of a few names of 100+ players on a list of "banned substances" in 2003, when testing was neither as accurate and positive results weren't illegal. Since actual testing began 10 years ago, Ortiz has tested positive 0 times.

@Richard B @Joebuckster@6marK6You need to read more carefully.  He is not complaining about his contract. He is complaining about the people who are criticizing him for talking about a contract extension.
