Newly signed Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Matt Garza had to pass on an offer from the Los Angeles Angels because he was on vacation with his wife, according to MLB.com’s Adam McCalvy.

Garza received an offer from the Angels in December worth $52 million over four years, but he passed because he was in Turks and Caicos on an anniversary trip and did not want to be distracted by baseball.

“I was on vacation with my wife, and I didn’t want to be disturbed,” Garza said. “It was like, ‘Here it is, we’ll pull it in a certain amount of hours.’ I didn’t have a chance to respond, so I just said, ‘Whatever. It is what it is.’”

Garza eventually signed a similar four-year, $50 million deal with the Brewers, the largest free agent deal in the club’s history.

He's such an ace that if I was hitting against him I'd only be able to get the ball back to the mound.  So..... HOF for me I suppose.

Might be an ok pitcher but he looks and acts like a dbag.

garza will fare better in the NL at this point anyways.  probably would've been a bad move for the angels and garza if he stayed in the AL.

Why does Wisconsin have professional teams outside of the Packers? None of them are any good and the fans don't show up. Has anyone seen the Bucks court? Talk about a disaster, that could be a legit reason why they are the worst team in the league.

Garza's a legit ace, now we have 2 aces. I'd be surprised if we don't fight for the division title all season. Not to mention Braunie will be back at full strength and we all know how he can bolster a lineup. Good things from the crew this year fellas

The agent makes money either way, but I'd want my client to be more dedicated to his career than Garza is. You're a free agent and you're going to tell your agent to pretty much "fuck off....I'm on vacation". Unreal.

Tag line is misleading, he didn't "miss" the offer, he chose to not respond in the time frame the team stated the offer would be in play.  Big difference.

Man, I like my vacations but the difference in that deal was 2 million dollars.  I'm sure my newly wed wife wouldn't mind extending the vacation by a day (assuming he would have had to take one day off his original vacation to study the contract)  for 2 million dollars extra, out of which she'd get 1 million WHEN she gets her divorce (which in sports is a near certainty).

The Garza deal is yet another milestone in the history of one of the worst organizations in sports. $50 million for a guy who averaged 128 innings over the past two years. A lifetime .500 pitcher with an era 3.84. The best the Brewers can hope for the next decade is to finish ahead of the Cubs.

It is obvious that baseball players make too much money. He did not want to be bothered with his primary work because he was on vacation. He did not have that great of a season to warrant what the Brewers paid him.

Maybe the Angels should have figured out when he would be available to sign a contract.

Nice move genius!!  You can be on your next vacation in October while the Angels are playing in the playoffs. October baseball is for dummies.  Who wants to work when they can be on vacation. Right Matty-boy?

I wonder how Mrs. Garza feels about living in Milwaukee instead of Newport Beach?

@The_truth_hurts Oh look, Milwaukee had a higher attendance than Boston in 2011. Wow, shocker. Truth hurts doesn't it.

@The_truth_hurts

You are joking right? Milwaukee is baseballs smallest market and the Brewers are consistent at 3 millions fans. Top 15 in all of baseball. You are completely clueless. Truth hurts doesn't it.

@MrArlington  The agent works for the player, and if the player told the agent he wasn't going to listen to contract offers while he was on a vacation with his wife then that's what the agent should have relayed to the team before they even bothered to make an offer.

In the end, if Garza feels comfortable pitching in Milwaukee and making 2 million dollars less in order to draw a line between baseball and his personal life then whose business is it either way?

@RonHawkster  But $2million more in LA may not be that big of a difference compare to the cost of living in wisconsin

@PackersFanNumeroUno  I assume you're a Brew Crew faithful fan... and, I applaud your springtime optimism, dude, but seriously?  Uh uh.  Not. Going. To. Happen.

@bcrd500  It is obvious that you are clueless. 30 organizations don't want the skill set you have. 30 organizations want the skill set Garza has. When you have that type of demand, one can not be bothered while on vacation considering he was coveted by so many.

@Ericfollowedbyanumber  yeah.  Doesn't even sound right;  you make a guy an offer for 54 million dollars and his agent doesn't say, 'Hey, folks;  Matt's on an anniversary vacation with his wife and wants to concentrate on only that for a few days.  Certainly we can wait a few days for a decision.'   Unless the Angels G.M. is totally clueless and classless, he/they wait a few days, right?

@RD  Angels in the playoffs? What are you smoking? Predicted to finish 3rd and out of the playoffs yet again. Get used to mediocrity. How are those Pujols and Hamilton trades working out?

@RD  because the Angels are a lock for October baseball, just like the last 4 years, right?

@The_Sports_Dude  More than likely they maintain a winter home some place nice, and she'll only live in Milwaukee during the season, during which time the weather is pretty nice.

@The_Sports_Dude  Wi has better taxes, and spring and Summer in WI beats LA any day of the week.  He will more than make up the $2 mil in tax savings...

@MullySticks @The_truth_hurts  You do realize that the Brewers field is bigger right? This is the only reason the Brewers had more fans LOL. The Red Sox were at 102% capacity in 11' and the Brewers were at 91% and in 08' BOS was at 104% while MIL was at 89% hahahahhaha , but you knew that, right?

@RoderickDaniels The skillset of bcrd500 has nothing do with his statement you loser. Learn to make a relevant rebuttal.

@x72 @The_Sports_Dude  Come on man, it's the beer capital of America. The winters can be a little rough, but Garza can go hang out where ever he wants in the winter with a $50M contract.

@x72 @The_Sports_DudeDo you, or have you ever lived in Milwaukee!?!? Most likely not which is what makes your idiotic comment that much more amusing. LA spent boat loads of money over the past three seasons and haven't done anything with it. I think Garza is a nice fit in MKE, not to mention he won't have to deal with the over priced primadonna's in LA, good move Matt!

@MullySticks @The_truth_hurts  What cheater would that be? Big Papi? I don't remember him being suspended. He isn't an embarrassment to his franchise like Braun the liar. My original comment is why does Wisconsin have teams other than the Packers. By this I mean they suck and clearly the Bucks fans quit on them, and Brewers fans wear FrauD jerseys now. Quit your crying.

MullySticks
MullySticks

@The_truth_hurts @MullySticksYou have no right to talk about a cheater. You only won your WS's because of a cheater. Your original point still means nothing. Brewers draw in the largest attendance compared to there market.

The_truth_hurts
The_truth_hurts

@MullySticks @The_truth_hurts  I'm not a Celtics fan, but you comparing the Bucks to the Celtics is down right laughable. The Bucks are DEAD LAST in attendance this year. 00-06 have nothing to do with this. They were somewhat decent in those days. The Celtics suck this year and they still average 18,000 fans. The Bucks haven't broke the top 20 since 04. Thank you for proving my point. Wisconsin only cares about the Packers and the Badgers. Watch how low the attendance gets this year because of that cheater, Braun. You're welcome for the free education.

MullySticks
MullySticks

@The_truth_hurts your original point is still mute. The Brewers draw in large attendance. I don't understand why you attack? Because I pointed out a huge flaw in your argument? The Celtics drew in less people between 00-06 than the Bucks. And this is not even a Bucks tread, but your trolling so you will bring up anything. Let me guess, the stadium is smaller? I am a Red Sox fan in the AL, but you sir fit the stereotype of a ignorant Boston fan. Look at you, finally winning after 90 years and you feel all entitled.
