Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice was arrested early Saturday morning after what his attorneys told The Baltimore Sun was a “very minor physical altercation” with a woman in Atlantic City, N.J.

Rice’s attorney, Andrew Alperstein, told the Sun that Rice was charged and released after allegations of the minor physical altercation with the woman, who was identified as his fiancée. Rice’s fiancée, Janay Palmer, was also charged and released in the incident, according to the Sun.

Both Rice and Palmer were charged with simple assault-domestic violence and were released on a summons to appear in court, according to a copy of the Atlantic City Police Department’s report that was obtained by the Sun.

In a statement, the Ravens confirmed that they were aware of the incident.

“We are aware of the Friday night situation with Ray Rice and his fiancée,” Ravens public relations director Chad Steele told the Sun. “We have spoken with Ray, and know that they returned home together after being detained.”

Michael Diamondstein, an attorney who was hired to represent Rice, said that sifting through the evidence will likely turn up nothing more than a “misunderstanding.”

The 27-year-old Rice had perhaps his least-productive season with the Ravens last year, rushing 214 times for just 660 yards and four touchdowns. He also caught 58 passes for 321 yards.

If the beaten girl was white throw Rice in Jail.  If the girl was black let it be and move on.

Another no story. Ray - Isn't it time to for this relationship to end?  Keep your money - put the girl on waivers.

Rice probably had enough of that broads lip so he beat her which she deserved. Woman just need to shut up.

Yep.... another slow day at the SI NFL desk now that season is over. He's down to reporting crap like this. I guess it beats writing another prolonged story about what an idiot Richie Incognito is, eh?

He's as guilty as the Duke lacrosse team.

Classic little mans syndrome. Takes it out on a female because he's the size of a garden gnome.

The broad probably deserved to be hit. let Rice go as he is paying all the bills and the broad would be on welfare if not for Rice.

@Mark112  Yeah, right.... and by time the pre-season starts, the other 31 teams will have a story like this with one of their guys. Will it be "Typical _____ behavior" then, too?

@The_truth_hurts Why don't you tell that to his face. Internet testicles are so big they must have gotten lodged in your mouth.

@The_truth_hurts Probably from steroid abuse. But yeah, real men don't need to so much as raise their voice to a female.

@dandogwood  which is where this guy is gonna be a few yrs after his playing days are done based on his treatment of women...  shows his lack of character, manners, class, intelligence etc...

I've enjoyed watching him play football, but this changes everything.  Abuse of any kind towards children, women and the elderly is despicable.

I would say it to his face. What's he going to do, hit me? If he does, he gets nailed with assault, and could end up in jail, and also would end up going to court to pay for any and all medical bills I would end up with.

Know how many times I have been arrested for assault when someone insults me? Zero. That's because I have thick skin and don't let my anger get the best of me.

@MikeHarrison So you were there when it happened, just like every other person was there when Ray Lewis' friends defended themselves. With so many witnesses how come we can never get a conviction. You have cops on film breaking the law, and they don't get convicted, why convict someone that you have no clue what even happened. If a man were to get raped by a group of women they would just call him one of the luckiest men around and let it go.
