The National Football League paid commissioner Roger Goodell $44.2 million for the year ending March 31, 2013, reports Sports Business Daily‘s Daniel Kaplan.

That number includes $9.1 million in deferred pension and bonuses earned the previous year. According to the report, Goodell received a $3.5 million salary and a $40.36 million bonus (including $5 million earned the previous year) during that time period.

Goodell, who has been commissioner since September 2006, made $11.5 million in 2011.

More from Sports Business Daily:

“Goodell’s compensation reflects our pay-for-performance philosophy and is appropriate given the fact that the NFL under his consistently strong leadership continues to grow,” NFL owners Arthur Blank, Robert Kraft, and Jerry Richardson wrote in a letter to their fellow owners that is scheduled to be e-mailed friday afternoon.

A non-profit that coerces/threatens TV blackouts if games don't sellout, coerces/threatens to leave cities where they've had a team for decades if the taxpayers won't fully fund brand new monuments to excess & arrogance, and gets out of paying property taxes by "allowing" the cities to own the stadiums they wield complete control over......absolutely ridiculous.

Tell me again why taxpayers subsidize the NFL?

@CoughingSoul @WoodsyGump  No, he's extremely overpaid and easily replaceable. The commissioner is just a mouthpiece for the fat-cat out of touch robber-baron owners.
