New York Knicks All-Star forward Carmelo Anthony says he knows that he is not going to be traded and that he would take less money in order to win a championship.

Anthony spoke with reporters Friday about speculation that the Knicks would trade him before the NBA trade deadline on Feb. 20. Anthony has two years left on his contract but can opt out this summer, making him eligible for a five-year, $129 million deal with the Knicks.

“I want to win a championship. If I have to become a free agent in order to do that, then that’s what I have to do,” Anthony said.

Anthony also said that coach Mike Woodson, whose job status has been up for debate for the past couple of weeks, would be in Memphis on Monday for practice ahead of the team’s game against the Grizzlies on Tuesday.

the Knicks for years have made deal after deal for year after year to cover up bad past deals instead of bottoming out when all logic dictates to do so like the chicago bulls are attempting to do right now.....   last year was that only year since Melo has been a Knick that they had ANY chance of winning it all however small that chance was

I have no confidence the Knicks will be able to put together a team capable of getting to a East Conf Championship game much less win a chip so you might as well trade Melo for pieces and eventually blind-luck into something.

The Knicks have to become a playoff contender first in order Melo to stay..  Last year they got carry over from the other year when Linsanity got the Knicks going . Now it died down, so does the Knicks. You guys don't know how IMPORTANT a great pg does to a team.

FIRST THING, THE KNICKS NEED TO DO IS TO FIND A GREAT PG THAT CAN SCORE AND GET TEAMMATES EASY BUCKET. Just like J-lin did when he was on the Knicks. Melo can score, but few others have to step up as well. But the Knicks lacks at those department. That is why  MOREY IS SMART and DOLAN IS DUMB. WHY? BEFORE the Rockets sign J-lin, they didn't make the playoff in 4 years. Once they sign J-lin, Asik and Harden, they are playoff team contender and that why D-wight came to Houston. And now the Rockets  become a title contender.

DOLAN??? He think by bringing in a vet  and save lots $$$ name felton would make the Knicks a great team. It help last year, but going downhill ever since. Now it bites Dolan in the azz. If Dolan, wouldn't be so cheap and Melo wouldn't be "ITS ABOUT ME FIRST" AND Woodson wouldn't be so bias against J-lin, then NOW the Knicks would be 3 -4 seed in the E C.

Dont say that b/c the Rocket got Harden, they make the playoff, ITS ABOUT TEAM WORK.

MELO IS WAY BETTER THAN HARDEN, SHOOTING AND DEFENSE. DWIGHT IS WAY BETTER THAN TYSON CHANDER, CHANDLER NEED SOMEONE LIKE LIN TO FEED HIM EASY BUCKET. RIGHT NOW, CHANDLER IS A NON THREAT TO ANY TEAM AND FELTON?? MIA.

most people who will comment on this are either not Knick fans or Knick fans who behave like sheep....

the Knicks had to get Melo because he was Amare Stoudamire insurance how bad would it look if Melo went to the brooklyn nets.   donnie walsh did an average job as GM but he was given lattitude cut salary and get rid of players that the previous GM did not seem to have.

here is a list of things on donnie walsh's resume:  1)picking mike d'antoni over tom thibedeau  2)signing Amare to a max contract  3)picking jordan hill over brandon jennings  4)allowing maubury be benched for absolutely no reason at all  5)not insisting on getting kosta koufos back in the Melo deal  among other things.

Knicks will most likely not trade Melo until they are forced to this summer if Melo wants out but the Knicks should be honest with themselves and trade him now because the Knicks dont have the ability to surround Melo with the pieces needed for the Knicks to be a championship contender.

Why would anyone trade away their future, like the dumbass Knicks did, for Melo when they could just wait for the Summer where he opts out & now has options to go where he wants while teams hold on to their team core.

Bye Melo, can't say I'll miss you as a 20 year Knick fan.

Thanks for shooting a lot , i guess.

He won't be traded because no other teams want him (before or after the break). That applies twice as much to Amare (with or without the apostrophe) and the two thugs (Artest and K-Mart).'Melo's best year was for the Orange.

@wiseman  let me get this straight...

you think part of the reason why the Knicks won 54 games last year is due to jeremy lin even though he was NOT on the team at all last year.....  and you think daryl morley did a great job with the lin and asik contracts.

first.... dont be silly.

second.....  asik and jeremy lin's contracts will eat up $15 mill of cap space each next year for most teams (including the Knicks) who are over the cap.  which is why morley is finding it difficult to get anyone to TAKE those contracts without getting NOTHING in return.  both jeremy lin and asik are superfluous parts on a team that could surely use the cap space to sign more useful players.

nothing against lin who is a fine player but raymond felton is having a horrendous year 10+ PPG/5+ assists per game and is only making $3.6 million..... lin is making $8.3 million this year and is 13+PPG with less assists than felton.

now what happends when lin's salary balloons to $15 million next yr while felton's remains at under $4 millon??  who would YOU rather have??

and before anyone starts talking about how they wouldn't have a problem with Melo in a brooklyn nets uniform just remember that the nets owner is willing to go 10x over the cap to build a championship club.   IF you put Melo on the nets right now and remove paul pierce how much better of a team are they?

@P0is0nedKoolA1  as a 20 yr Knick fan I would hope you were smarter than this......

exactly what "future" did the Knicks trade away when they aquired Melo??  mosgov??  oft injured gallinari??  how's about wilson chandler who (i guess most people dont remember) the Knicks were going to lose anyway since they were already over the cap and unable to bring him back if anyone offered him $5 dollars more than the Knicks were capable of??

the ONLY thing of value is the 2014 pick that no one AND I REPEAT NO ONE WAS CRYING OVER when the deal was made.   and the pick is ONLY valuable because the Knicks are now a bad team but since the East is sooooo bad they might sneak into the playoffs anyway and the 2014 would again not be worth as much (plus nobody knows what freshmen will stay in school and not be availa ble in the draft).
