The Los Angeles Dodgers have a problem that most teams would love to have: more than enough talented outfielders.

But centerfielder Matt Kemp, who is still working his way back from ankle surgery and hasn’t been cleared to start running, made it clear that he wants to start.

“I’m not a fourth outfielder. We can cut that question off right now,” Kemp said via the Los Angeles Times. “That’s the last question you have to ask me. I’m not a fourth outfielder. I’m not going to be a fourth outfielder. I’m here to help my team win and play every day. We can stop right there.”

The team currently has Yasiel Puig, Andre Ethier and Carl Crawford as other outfielders on the roster. Kemp only played in 73 games last season and hit .270 with six home runs and 33 RBIs.

JAFFE: Winter Report Card: Los Angeles Dodgers

“When it’s time for me to come back, I’m going to come back and be the same player I’ve been in previous years when I was healthy,” he said.

“I don’t know where you get this fourth outfielder talk from, man. You all love talking about four outfielders, man. That’s like the question of the day every day. I think all four of us outfielders feel the same way. None of us are fourth outfielders. Everybody wants to play every day. I won’t accept that role. I can’t accept that role.”

Kemp will be whatever the Dodgers tell him to be, and given his post-PEDs injury history, he'll most likely be part of a platoon.

he is stating the obvious.  He does not play.  He wished he was the 4th outfielder.

He's right, in my estimation, if he's healthy, he is starting caliber and a quality piece.

maybe not a 4th outfielder... but definitely a former PED user.  since 2011, this guy has lost bat speed, increased strike outs BIG TIME, gets hurt all the time, etc.

how hilarious is it that he hurt his ankle because he was dogging it around 3rd base and ended up having to make that terrible slide and destroyed his ankle in the process?  play hard every play, matty boy.

He is fragile. Only reason he wasn't traded this offseason is because his value was so low. If he stays healthy I would rather have him play over Ethier though.

This team is in shambles. Look for them to struggle mightily this year. I see no more than 40 wins.

Can always come to Philly, Kemp haha..once upon a time those rumors were circulating. Dodgers are hungry for that Chip, and unfortunately Kemp's seasons remain inconsistent..tho recently he's been battling injuries, he's gone from AS to almost no -show, to a "sub-par" season, and that's being nice. Won't be surprised if Dodgers dump him, and it would be unfortunately because he's a great dude..but personality doesn't outweigh business.
