New York Jets free safety Ed Reed had $50,000 stolen from him Wednesday, shortly after withdrawing the cash from a Houston-area bank, according to a report Thursday by Craig Hlavaty of the Houston Chronicle.

Police continue to search for the person responsible for breaking the window of a car belonging to the nine-time Pro Bowler and taking a bag containing the cash. Police believe Reed was followed prior to the robbery, according to Hlavaty’s report. It’s unclear whether officials have any leads in the investigation.

After 10 seasons with the Ravens, he 35-year old Reed signed with the Texans before last season. He was cut by Houston in mid-November and signed with the Jets days later.

I guess the Texans found a way to get back some of the money that they waisted on Reed.

Yeah I Said It So What?
Yeah I Said It So What?

35 years old in pro football?

Man, he'd better be holding on tighter to his $$

He's just this side of washed up and g-o-n-e.

Takes 50k out of one bank, drives up the block, leaves cash in the car, and goes into another bank?

Why does this sound so odd?

Er, with ready access to that kind of money, why was he driving a 7-year old beater?

50K? - A little pocket change to pay the meters.

Goodell will now come out with a new rule banning players from having too much cash on hand. He knows better, and it's for your own good. Just ask him.

More proof that becoming a New York Jet turns you stupid.

He was going to buy crack with it anyways. The robber was doing him a favor.

Something's not kosher about this. Five straps of 10G's easily fits in a glove compartment.

Further evidence that Ed Reed is an unadulterated idiot which is why he fits in so perfectly with the Jets.

A lot of vitriol here from people who don't have $50,000.

Next time he'll hide it better-- like in the glove compartment.

$50,000 to him is like $500 to me.  He'll survive.

Look at his photo. That is the face of a guy who would leave $50k in a bag on his car seat.

Umm, has he not heard of Cashier's Checks or just a regular check?  I'm pretty sure they were invented to prevent this kind of theft.

I am so smart, S-M-R-T!

It was tuition money for graduate courses he is taking.

Come play for us in Green Bay Eddie, this type of crap doesn't happen.

Maybe Goodell felt like he hadn't taken 50K from a defender in a while so he was behind it.

No one ever said athletes were smart. This is just more proof.

There is only one reason in this day and age to have $50K in cash - you are engaged in an illegal activity.

Why does he have 50k laying around in his car? Strip Club money?

Whatever

$50,000? In $100 bills?

And then you leave the bag in your car?!?

Gee, I wonder what Ed was on his way to buy . . . .

Vitriol?

Most of us have never SEEN $50,000 cash in our lives.  This seems to treat it like a bag of groceries.

We're disgusted at anyone would behaving so stupidly with such a huge sum of money.

@PackersFanNumeroUno Woodson was 29 when they signed him.  Ed Reed will be 36 come football season.  Dude's finished.  You'd know that if you didn't spend all your time trolling soccer boards.
