Richie Incognito to Jonathan Martin: ‘The truth is going to bury you’

Miami Dolphins offensive guard Richie Incognito aggressively spoke out against Jonathan Martin during a Wednesday afternoon rant on Twitter.

In his tweets, Incognito claimed Martin — a fellow Miami Dolphins offensive lineman who alleges he was bullied by Incognito — was not telling the truth, and that the full story would “bury” the former Stanford star.

In one tweet, Incognito claimed that Martin confided that he was contemplating suicide in 2013 due to poor play.

Martin and Incognito were both starters for the Dolphins until midway through this past season, when Martin left the team and Incognito was suspended due to bullying allegations.

Incognito subsequently stated that he was sorry for some of his comments in the past, but that he has been a “loyal friend and good teammate.” This past season, Martin accused Incognito of bullying him during his time in Miami. Incognito was suspended in early November.

Incognito has denied bullying Martin. He claims the two offensive linemen were good friends. A league-sanctioned report on the alleged incident is expected to be released within the next week.

The formerly suspended lineman also referenced an infamous publicly released voicemail, in which Incognito uses racially explicit language in a message for Martin. Incognito claimed in his tweets that he and Martin joked about the voicemail with Miami Dolphins teammate Brian Hartline.

After sending out several tweets over the course of roughly an hour, Martin sent out a final message telling his followers to contact his lawyer with any additional queries.

Doesn't this guy have a filter?  Freedom of speech should always be tempered with intelligence and foresight... And that answers my question.

I realize that I am old, but I sure preferred the world when athletes (and others) pretty much kept their rants to themselves, or at ;least their immediate circle.  Boring!

Richie would be a hometown fav here in Green Bay with a little help from Aaron and Mr Kuhn. Let them take you under their wing and rehab your image dude.

Richie is a bully and an a**, and he doesn't hide either fact, but he also was teammate and apparently a friend. What Martin is doing in throwing Richie under the bus is even more of travesty in my opinion. Take ownership of your own short comings and don't blame someone else for your problems. And that smirk of a smile in the picture above just makes you think he is a lying POS.

This guy Incognito needs help.

I mean, I can believe that what happened with him and Martin went exactly as Incognito describes it.

And I can still say, Incognito needs help.

I can't see any team wanting Martin or Incognito.

This is sort of starting to sound like a lover's tiff.

Neither one of these RE-RE's have enough talent to make any team put up with this BS from either of them. Shut your mouth and play football. Incognito/Martin are just a bunch of EMO queens at this point.

There are five (at least) explanations for Incognito's erratic, destructive, anti-social behavior:

        1) 'roid rage, as has been suggested

          2) unmedicated bi-polar disorder (extreme) which would explain "good Richie / bad Richie"

          3) early onset of post-concussion behavioral issues (violent bursts of rage)

          4) he's an a'hole

          5) all of the above

I'm surprised no one has openly speculated about # 2 or # 3 while most of the discussion has been around #4 and a little about # 1. My opinion: I wouldn't want him as a teammate. I don't see how his presence makes a locker room better. Inevitably, his play on the field doesn't justify the melodrama he brings to the locker room and the unwanted media scrutiny. When that happens, he's sent packing (three times going on four). At the end of the day, the same will probably be true of Martin as well as he brought this to the public's attention rather than keeping it "in the family". I think both Incognito and Martin are finished.

Just about the time the tide is turning more in defense of Incognito and against Martin, Richie makes sure all NFL teams still view him for what he is - a trouble maker.

He was trouble at nebraska, He was oft-penalized and always fighting while a Ram. Now he is making sure his temper / personality issues are on every prospective employer's mind.

What a moron.

Show me the text where Martin says "leave me alone" or "STOP harassing me".   Does one exist?   I think they were buds and Martin is looking for the easy way out.

@TheHip1 Incognito himself says Martin didn't release the voicemail. Someone else did. So Martin didn't throw anybody under the bus. He left his million dollar job quietly to get away from Incognito. Think on that for a moment. He left his MILLION DOLLAR JOB....to get away from this prick. And you're blaming him? Hell in these tweets, Incognito comes off like a bully, which is exactly what he's accused of being. And that report has come out...and backed up Martin's side of the story. There's no defending Incognito on this one.

@Cinti-fan   Incognito will get a job.  With him getting slammed for moronic behavior no way he'd repeat to level that he did with martin and others.  He's too good - he will definitely be in demand

At first, I put in # 5, "all of the above" as a sarcasm and obvious joke. However, the more I think about it, Incognito could just be that "perfect storm" of emotional and physical issues brought together in the framework of an already asocial a'hole.

As for Incognito being a victim here, it would be tempting to think that if this episode with Martin was the only altercation he's been involved in. Unfortunately, it's not. It's the latest in a series of altercations that convinces many that he's at least principally to blame even if Martin screwed up in the way he responded. In any case, get ready for breaking news at some point of failed drug tests or other indications that Richie isn't your average "40 regular off the rack". I just hope he doesn't hurt himself or anyone else!

@Sportsredo  Explain the rant then because he comes off as the abusive a*hold he's been described as being by Martin.

@manniefaces  If someone was defaming you, running your name through the mud and furthering their own cause on the back of untruths using your name as the catalyst for that wouldn't you try to get your side of the story out there?

@nygiants56 @Cinti-fan

Are you serious?  Incognito is AWFUL.  Justin Smith threw him around like a rag doll for years when he played with the Rams.  This guy is a fraud, a pseudo-tough guy with terrible feet.  Ask the 49ers whether they'd love to see fatty lining up against them next year--Ray McDonald also abused him, and the idea of Incognito trying to block Aldon Smith would give his QB nightmares.

The ludicrous part of this story is the lie that Incognito was ever anything but a fringe player who only hung around by as the dirtiest in-line player in the league.  The Conrad Dobler of his day.

He's a hack--period.  And any team who picks him up now is pathetic by definition, and of course desperate.  (Hello, Raiders!)

Martin was a high pick who many thought would be taken in the First Round.  Indy or SF will grab him and he will have the last laugh.

By the way, no one in football has ever accused Harbaugh or Luck of lacking toughness, and they both vouch for and love this kid.

You see anyone in the NFL speaking up for the Fat Man?

ITATTRACTS

@MarkPost @Sportsredo  Maybe because he's upset? If you know the story, Martin also sent equally nasty texts to Incognito. So because all the sudden Martin is above it all, he gets to drag Incognito down? I'm not justifying the silly language but it's locker room talk and Martin was just as guilty of it. Incognito has every right to be angry, seeing as he's getting slammed left and right over something they ALL do.

MarkPost
MarkPost

@Serena There's a big difference between getting your story out and basically proving via Twitter that you're the abusive snot you're being accused of being.  I'm shocked his lawyers didn't make him cancel the account.

Bucky182
Bucky182

@DavidHarte @nygiants56@Cinti-fan So, Incognito would only be playing against the 49ers if he found a new home? Homer comment that lacks validity. The Lions and their front seven play the Packers and their generally bad o-line twice a year and the Packers almost always get the last laugh. I'll be Suh loves lining up across from Don Barclay. Unfortunately, those matchups, as you insinuate, don't typically win or lose the game. And what exactly were the 49ers winning when Incognito lined up against them twice a year? Last I checked, during that time period, nothing of any significance.

Speaking up for the Fat Man? How about the entire Dolphins locker room. You know, the same guys that played alongside Jonathan Martin.

"The Good Guy Award is given out by the Pro Football Writers Association in each NFL city to the player(s) who best helps the media do its job. In the 2012 season, Incognito was awarded this honor by the South Florida Chapter of the Pro Football Writers Association, alongside teammate Reggie Bush.

Basically, he was helpful to the Miami area press.  Not exactly the award you keep spouting off about and no, he didn't win it for the whole NFL.

He sexually molested a female volunteer at a golf tournament.  Felt her up with a golf club.

Apart from that, kicked off the Rams and 2 college teams.

What a great guy.

When this first broke, his friends were running around doing this kind of damage control for him, insulting everyone who disagreed.  Are you his buddy?
