Report: Jay Z, Roc Nation to advise Ndamukong Suh
Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh is expected to hire Jay Z and Roc Nation as his representatives, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Schefter cites multiple league sources saying Suh, who recently fired his agents, is expected to reach some type of client agreement with Roc Nation and its owner, recording star Jay Z. It is unclear at this point whether Roc Nation will negotiate Suh’s next contract or fulfill other responsibilities.
Suh is entering the final year of his rookie contract with the Lions. His base salary of $12.55 million and bonuses are scheduled to count $22.4 million against the team’s salary cap next season. Last month, Lions general manager Martin Mayhew said the team and Suh have expressed a desire for him to stay in Detroit long term, but did not establish a time frame for getting a new deal done.
“I think that’s going to be something that we certainly like the way that he’s playing, like to have Ndamukong around,” Mayhew told reporters Monday night at the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala. “He’s expressed that he wants to be here in the long term, so I think there’s a time frame that might get done, but I don’t know when that’s going to be.
“If it’s going to be sometime before the start of the league year, sometime during the league year, sometime during the fall — but there certainly will be an effort made to try to get that done, try to get an extension done long term.”
Jay Z ‘s growing list of high-profile professional athlete clients includes NFL players Victor Cruz and Geno Smith, major league baseball players Robinson Cano and CC Sabathia, and the NBA’s Kevin Durant.
