Johnny Manziel won’t throw in Texas A&M’s Pro Day on March 5 and will instead hold an on-campus event on March 27 for pro scouts, The Houston Chronicle’s John McClain reported Monday.

Manziel’s move suggests that he wants more time to hone his technique before being showcased in front of NFL scouts. Manziel has been working with private quarterbacks coach George Whitfield, who coached Andrew Luck and Cam Newton before the 2012 and 2011 NFL Drafts, respectively. Like Newton, Manziel is viewed as more of a mobile quarterback but has the potential to be selected first overall.

Former interim Houston Texans head coach and defensive coordinator said he recommended that the team draft Manziel with its No. 1 pick when he interviewed for the job that eventually went to Bill O’Brien.

“When I did the interview with the McNairs, I told them they ought to take Johnny Football,” Phillips told 610 Radio. “That’s what I told them, and I’m sitting here now without a job.”

If Manziel doesn't feel confident enough to throw at the combine OR pro day (which ALL other QBs who were not hurt before him have done) then why would any GM feel confident in this throwing ability?

I just heard a report that Manziel is still working on his mechanics with his throwing coach and he is not ready to be graded and judged by NFL scouts.  Wow.....  I do not think a few extra weeks are going to help much.  Draft stock could be going down.

I saw first hand what Texans coach Bill O'Brien did for Christian Hackenberg at Penn State. He turned the freshman into a first class QB and probably the best college football QB next year. He can really help Manziel. I think he goes to the Texans at #1. O'Brien is the reason Hackenberg went to PSU.

So....  he won't even throw at pro day.   Hahahahahaha   Why don't you just stay home then?  Oh... wait.  I forgot about his running skills.  He is going to need them in the NFL.  Of course the talent he will be facing then are not regular NCAA players....  they will ALL AMERICAS!!!!!!  If he goes to Cleveland he is going to get SMASHED.

Most mock drafts I have seen have Manziel going to Cleveland.  He would have been smart to play another year in college.

There are better options than this egomaniac.  He is going to spout off to the wrong guy in the NFL and will get his bell rung,  He isn't worth the trouble.

Good luck with this ego'd guy if you pick him.  just get the standard speeches concerning his off field behavior and tell everyone how he is still maturing and will handle it over time

@RichardCHamilton

Mechines dont change like that.... especially moving to the pros where things happen a lot faster, when you are under pressure you will revert to your old ways... ask Tebow

Manziel goes number 1 based on what? hype, a weak arm and poor mechanics... i will put it in clear english so you can understand... Manziel QB wise is no where in the class of a Bridgewater...

Andrew Luck and Rg3 are a lot closer than Manziel and Bridgwater are...

@Listening Many QBs have not thrown at their university's pro day.  Not a big deal.   Are you also aware that those All-Americans that you are yelling about also get jobs blocking in the NFL?

@Listening where do you think NFL players come from?  Most come from the SEC where A&M played the last two years.   You should go back to the Big 12 troll!

@DocZom

I sure hope not...

That's why Cleveland is referred to as the Dawg Pound; just a collection of strays and wanna bes...

@DocZom :  As a Browns fan, if he goes to Cleveland that will be the death of his career, if he truly had any NFL potential to begin with.  At least that's how it's worked since 1999.

@rma1015601 Great point, cuz no NFL team is looking for a quarterback.  NFL execs will probably read your post and Manziel will have to look for a job as a free agent.

@WHO*IS*ESPN  I'm sorry, did I miss the articles about him being picked up for using drugs on several occasions... or where he was accused of raping a girl, or he was out stealing computers from other people.  Now I do recall how he comes from money, he has partied legally, and signed autographs, and might have been paid..   I also recall that how when he is on the field he is a leader and has incredible skills... and how when on the sidelines he rallied his team and gave them encouragement.. and we certainly can't have that kind of behavior on a football field...   Oh, and he might have gay friends.. and well we all know how when you were a boy, you and your buddies kicked the heck out of a gay dude to prove how manly you were.. because we all know beating up gay guys is a sign of being masculine.

@JoeCabot @Listening

I will agree with you some All-Americans do get jobs blocking.  That being said, too many times while Manziel was playing in college and scrambling out of the pocket defenders missed because they were not NFL talent players.  When he tries the same (as he puts it "yardball") thing in the NFL he will get killed!!!!

@KevinG Errr... SEC? Really? Bought into ESPN's marketing, have we?

@KevinG

It's a fact that only the top NCAA players get to play in the NFL.  They are much faster and stronger than regular college players overall.  If you can't understand my post please do not comment on it.  Have a great day.

 @Listening  First off you lost any credibility you had when you you posted hahahahahaha. Second, if you really want insider information, he is moving his pro day for two reasons.  One to get sharper, which is a very common practice.  And two it gives more time to other Aggie players.  Third, All Americans.  Fourth, never ever use multiple exclamation points, that's for jr high.  Finally, anyone that goes to Cleveland will get smashed.  I am now mad at myself for wasting time on an idiot.

@KevinG @Listening  No Kevin most NFL players don't come from the SEC.  What a silly comment.  Look up and down those rosters he played the last 2 years and you will see that most of those guys won't make an NFL roster.  You SEC fans are funny with your ignorant belief that you are on the same level as the NFL.  So delusional.

@cool

He's been arrested for 3 misdemeanors. Before I hand him the reigns to a multi million dollar franchise, I'd make sure that's in the past. Wouldn't you?

@KevinG @Fifilo

1 - how does this magically translate into 'Most [NFL players] come from the SEC'  which was your shockingly ignorant comment.

2 - because the 'toughest division in the NCAA' which does have some superb team, always manages to groom an undefeated team to qualify for BCS title game thanks to most of the division being nothing but bottom feeders and creative officiating. ESPN money hype goes a long way here as well, rigging monstrosities like LSU/Bama BCS title games.

Oh, and do tell about those 'SEC defenses' the sales marketers ESPN passes off as announcers and analyst are so often lauding. It's the WAC with bigger players.

@Fifilo @KevinGhow is 7 out of the last 8 BCS championships part of ESPN marketing?  Please explain...I will wait.

KevinG
KevinG

@ACLtoo @Ryan19@KevinG@ListeningYeah, 7 out of the last 8 BCS championships, more bowl wins the last three years than the next 4 conferences combined and more SEC players drafted in recent drafts.....sounds like tanking to me...

ACLtoo

@Ryan19 @KevinG@ListeningClearly the SEC has been in a downward spiral for the last 3 seasons.  Bama got beat by OU, still laughing at that, Auburn lost in the Natty, let us not forget how dog butt awful Auburn and Mizzou were in 2012 only to compete for the SEC championship the following season.  SEC is a laughing stock to all outside ESPN and the SEC......so very sad.

@3M_TA3 arrested and convicted are two different things.  He pleaded guilty to 1 misdemeanor, for something that occurred over 18 months ago, when he was 19 years old.  Give the kid a break.  He had no issues at all this year so let's assume he has matured and learned from his mistakes.
