Pistons’ assistant John Loyer to serve as interim coach for remainder of the season
Detroit Pistons’ assistant coach John Loyer will serve as the team’s interim head coach for the remainder of the season, according to Yahoo Sports Adrian Wojnarowski.
The Pistons’ fired Maurice Cheeks on Sunday, after the 21-29 team had failed to live up to the front office’s expectations. Sports Illustrated‘s Chris Mannix has reported that the decision came from team owner Tom Gores.
Loyer has never served as a head coach in the NBA previously, but has served as an assistant for the Nets, 76ers, and Trailblazers before arriving in Detroit in 2011.
