Oklahoma State guard Marcus Smart has been suspended for three game after shoving an opposing fan during the team’s game Saturday night, according to ESPN’s Jeff Goodman.

Smart shoved Texas Tech fan Jeff Orr at the end of the team’s loss to Texas Tech, and said the he took full responsibility for the incident. Oklahoma State’s radio announcers reported Smart said the fan used a racial slur preceding the altercation, although Cowboys coach Travis Ford said he did not wish to talk about what Orr said to upset Smart.

Texas Tech and Jeff Orr have released a statement in which Orr apologizes for calling Smart ‘a piece of crap,’ but denies using any racial slurs. Orr has agreed not to attend any Red Raiders games for the remainder of the season. The school also released a brief video from underneath the basket where the altercation occurred.

Oklahoma State has had disciplinary trouble already this season, dismissing  freshman guard Stevie Clark from the team earlier this month after he was arrested for a second time this season.

Smart’s first game back after the suspension will be at home against Texas Tech.

laughing at these "abuse" comments. grow up, and so should this "typical" player, who can't handle a fans comments. really, since when do we all get authority to shove, punch, whatever anyone who says a word to us? Oh, and let's not forget, the "player" outright lied about the "word", how typical, he causes the altercation, then tries to cop out of responsibility by using the famous, go to attack, """he used a RACIAL" slur""":" Sooo typical, liar!

Texas Tech banning the fan strongly suggests the fan has a history of abusing players. I condemn Smart's reaction, but a grown man getting in a teenager's face to abuse him is pitiful.

That's a criminal assault, no matter how you "color" it.

So will Smart get asked why he lied to his coaches? He told them that Orr used a racist slur against him. This turned out to be a lie and should need to man up.

Reportedly he called Marcus Smart a piece of Crap==

After a full game of listening to the chiding-- Looks like the "uber fan" got under smarts skin-- After assaulting this A-Hole Fan- Smart said the the guy used "THE WORD" unsubstantially by any one else in the entire GOTCHA arena--  By all accounts the word was NEVER UTTERED-- Sad that a player can attach the SCARLETT RED N LETTER to someone, without proof--

Now it seems as if Texas Tech supports the fans version- however he will not be allowed back this year--

It is time for the NCAA, all athletic conferences, all colleges and universities to address the behavior and demeanor of their fans and coaches.  In most arenas today -- including some of the most "prestigious" ones -- i would not want to take my grandchildren to a game.  Marcus Smart made a mistake.  With that said, the profanity laced epithets that emanate from far too many student and regular fan sections is disgusting.

Can Smart appeal his suspen....oh wait, this is the NCAA.

@lowellwr criminal?  He shoved him but I see that in bus lines every day.  That's a ridiculous comment.

@lowellwr  Stupid comment.  Look up Buzz Aldrin and see why his punch was dismissed.

@carjax1202  Agreed. Why is Smart, or any player, a "piece of crap"? Just because he plays for the other team? Just because he was hustling and fell into the crowd? Because he's black and this fan is white? It's insane what fans think their ticket allows them to do. A fan shouldn't call a visiting player anything. Also, yes, "piece of crap" is what you can hear on the video. That proves nothing...except that's all the video picked up. Nobody knows what Smart thought he heard. He could have heard a lot of things that the video didn't pick up. Richard Sherman used the "heat of the moment" defense, and everybody bought in to it. Yet people want to bash a much younger, amateur player in a much more heated situation, falling into the middle of a very hostile crowd. Move the crowds back away from the courts and this never happens. Oh, but the almighty dollar wouldn't like that....

@carjax1202Weren't you the guy supporting Richard Sherman saying it is part of the game? A fan calling a visiting player a piece of crap is pretty G rated. You need to lighten up man.

@carjax1202  Agree again. That's like news reports that a coach "resigned". Yeah, right. "Allowed to resign" is closer to the truth. "Allowed to resign"....definition... "FIRED".

@floorme1955 what gives this fan the right to demean any player?  These guys are not professional, don't get "paid" to take abuse, and though they are no longer kids, do not deserve this type of derisive behavior.  And this guy Orr?  He is all so strong and mighty in a crowd--I'd love to see him confront Smart or any player individually on a street corner.

The only good thing about what Orr did is it spotlights disgusting fan behavior and hopefully improves it.  Boo the opponent, but don't get personal about it.  "Piece of crap"?  Why?  Because Smart plays well?  Is that like pot calling the kettle???

@floorme1955 How is the fan an "a hole"? Because he called a visiting player a piece of crap? Seems pretty weak to me. Fans yell at players all the time and often the players yell back.
