The Arizona Diamondbacks agreed to sign free agent starter Bronson Arroyoreports Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.

The contract is a two-year deal, includes an option and financial terms were not disclosed, but ESPN.com’s Buster Olney reports that Arroyo will get at least $23.5 million.  He will receive $9.5 million this season and 2015, a $11 million club option for 2016 with a $4.5 million buyout.

The Los Angeles Dodgers and Baltimore Orioles were also reportedly interested in signing Arroyo.

Arroyo, 36, spent the last eight seasons with the Cincinnati Reds. He went 14-12 with a 3.79 ERA and 124 strikeouts last season.

Arroyo has been a durable starter, taking the mound over 30 times in each of the past 10 seasons and has pitched 199 innings or more in nine of those years.

Mr. A has always been a quality starter.  How big market teams passed on him makes no sense.

Oh, D-Backs. Just because the Dodgers were interested in Arroyo doesn't mean you should sign him. $23.5M? Oh, man, you could have spent your money much better elsewhere.

@MrTemecula  Can't take anything you idiot Dodger fans say seriously. You laugh at this yet your team signs bums like Paul Maholm. Talk about wasting money.

@MrTemecula Like where? He was the best pitcher available for a team that needed a starter. With the going rate for starting pitchers nowadays I think this was a fair price to pay for a proven commodity such as Arroyo.

Now, there's a well-reasoned, intelligent reply. Adds a lot to the discussion. Eighth grade, DF, or have I overrated you?
