Los Angeles Galaxy sign coach Bruce Arena to multi-year extension
The Los Angeles Galaxy and former U.S. national team coach Bruce Arena have agreed to a multiyear extension, the team announced on Thursday.
Terms of the deal were not released.
Arena, the team’s head coach and general manager, joined the Galaxy in 2008 and led them to MLS Cup titles in 2011 and 2012. He is 82-46-44 in six regular seasons with L.A., and is a three-time MLS coach of the year.
“I’m honored to remain in this role with the preeminent soccer club in the United States,” Arena said in a statement. “I appreciate the continued support and confidence from … my staff and players as we head into the 2014 season.”
Arena, 62, also won the 1996 and 1997 MLS Cup titles with D.C. United and led the U.S. national team to two World Cups, including the 2002 quarterfinals against Germany.
