Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson still plans to appear at the Texas Rangers’ spring training, according to his baseball agent Mark Rodgers, reports Jon Morosi of Fox Sports.

The Rangers start spring training in Surprise, AZ on Feb. 16 when the pitchers and catchers are scheduled to report.

Wilson played baseball in high school and was selected by the Baltimore Orioles in the 41st round of the 2007 MLB draft before going to North Carolina State to play quarterback.

Wilson was drafted again by the Colorado Rockies in the fourth round of the 2010 MLB draft and played second base in Single-A ball for two seasons with Tri-City and Asheville.

The Rangers acquired Wilson from the Rockies in December in the MLB Rule 5 draft.

Wilson led the Seahawks to a Super Bowl title over the Denver Broncos last night, completing 18 of 25 passes for 206 yards and two touchdowns.

He ain't going to actually try out listen to how the rangers talk about him they just want to shake the hand of the most recent superbowl quarterback and have him talk to the team who wouldn't want to hang wit wilson and learn from that hard working can do attitude

Bo Jackson, Deion Sanders, now Russell Wilson! Hope he makes the Rangers!

While it shows his athleticism that he probably can play 2 sports, kind of risky to do as he hasn't gotten the big contract yet.  He has shown remarkable poise and play at QB in his 2 years, but there is more room to grow and develop as an elite QB.  If he gets off to a slow start next NFL season, people will point to the baseball thing as the reason.

Not a big Hawks fan, but am  a Wilson fan, Every time he wins I feel like he is sticking it to the many GM's that passed over him in the draft. Most 3 times. (To be honest, the Hawks got lucky having passed on him twice)

I hope he continues to do well, and make GM's realize intangibles are worth more than 2 or 3 inches of height.

Kid is the real deal, I should know I'm a Badgers fan.

Who would have thought he would outplay Peyton on the big stage, well me but besides that not many.

Seahawks need to sign him long-term now.  It's ridiculous Peyton Manning makes twice per game what Russell Wilson makes for an entire season.

Smart kid to keep his options open in case this whole football thing doesn't work out.

@j7apple  Has nothing to do with intangibles and everything to do with having the best defense in recent times on your team.

Um, the state of Washington knew he would.  :-)

@PackersFanNumeroUno,I remember telling my brother who is also a sports nut that Wilson was the best quarterback I saw in 2011, in college football.  And that included Andrew Luck and RG3.  And I am a 49er fan.

@RandySandberg Perhaps Paul Allen will "gift" him a few mansions on Lake Washington.

You know....just to show appreciation.

Just a gift mind you.

Got to keep it under the CAP.

@RandySandberg  They can't sign him yet because he still has two years left on his rookie deal. Under the new CBA, they can't do anything.

He's not going anywhere. The Seahawks will step up and sign him as soon as they can. They may already have the basic structure agreed to with his agent.

@Whatever @RandySandberg  He's not going anywhere. The city LOVES Russell Wilson.. He'll never have to buy a meal in Seattle ever again.

@Whatever @RandySandberg Even though the rules have been in place now for a few years I still think it'll take some time before people fully grasp that. I know Seattle wants to lock him in but as a third-round pick Seattle is set cap-wise until that day finally comes. They have a top rate quarterback that they don't have to pay. That's why teams, especially GMs, love the 'new' CBA rules when mid- to late-round studs makes a name for themselves.
