Super Bowl XLVIII could be running back Knowshon Moreno’s final game as a Bronco. Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports the Broncos don’t expect to be able to re-sign Moreno when he hits free agency.

Moreno, 26, followed up two disappointing seasons by rushing for 1,038 yards and scoring 13 touchdowns for the Broncos in 2013. He ranked fifth in the NFL in yards from scrimmage and added 60 receptions. The presence of 2013 second-round draft pick Montee Ball and the need to devote cap space to restructure contracts or re-sign other players could leave Moreno to find another team on the free agent market.

Moreno has shied away from the subject during Super Bowl media sessions.

From Pro Football Talk:

“My future is right now. I don’t live in the future; I live in the present,” Moreno said Monday. “Right now, this is what I’m thinking about. I’m thinking about today getting better, throughout the week getting better and on Sunday doing what we can to get the win.”

Moreno is expected to play Sunday despite leaving the AFC Championship Game with a rib injury.

He was solid this year, but Denver has 2 other younger RBs on the roster that will fill in well next year.  Moreno wasn't even on anyone's radar earlier in the year before injuries hit the Broncos.  I could see Moreno going back to Georgia and signing with the Falcons...

Of course they won't. Their payroll is gonna be too high to sign a good RB. Could make them a more one dimensional team next year.

Why Denver "wouldn't" do whatever... DOH

I do not get why Denver would do whatever it takes to keep this guy. He's the heartbeat of the team. BTW, he came back from 2 disappointing seasons looking much stronger and beefier this year. Hope he's not hitting the juice.

You still think the media doesn't want Denver to lose??

Thats too bad! he was a beast this year! If they are smart they try to keep him! Nothing but respect for the guy!

Moreno will be a Bolt next season, book it.

San Diego wins the Super Bowl next season, Moreno runs wild.

San Diego can use Moreno.  Although Mathews is one of the toughest and best backs in the NFL, San Diego cannot depend on him.  He overcame the fumbles this year but not the injuries.  I'd take Moreno over Ball without question.  Moreno plays much bigger than Ball, even though they are similar in size.  I think I've seen this scenario in San Diego when they decided to let Michael Turner go.  What a big mistake that was, especially when L.T. was injured. If it's a money issue, the Broncos can find a way to keep him.  If the Broncos think that Ball is the future, that's a different story.

I think Denver re-signs him and let's Decker walk instead. Moreno is such an integral part of the offense: Good runner, Great blocker, receiver and has two years working with Peyton and his audibles.

In 2013, Knowshown had MORE yards from scrimmage than Lynch. To put Denver offense in perspective, Consider that Seattle's offense is built around Lynch and Knowshown is just a cog in a machine and plays in a pseudo RB by committee with Ball. Ball doesn't make Knowshown expendable, he makes him better because he takes some of the load off of him.

All kinds of creativity, back-loading etc is possible if Denver wants to keep him and he wants to stay.

Probably a blown up non-story fed by the sea-hen press in hopes of a fumble or two.

@Joe R2  Not a bad spot for Moreno. Its obvious to everyone that the Broncos cant afford to resign Moreno. Manning makes too much then there are other holes that need to be addressed over the RB position, a spot that the Broncos have drafted a few times in recent years.

@R3 Then you probably should say that you don't get why they "wouldn't" do whatever it takes...

@Shaq

It would be smart for the Chargers to pick him up, considering Mathews is still a borderline bust.  But I think Moreno's best landing spot will be in Atlanta since he played college ball in Georgia.

@ReedWright ryan matthews lost one fumble this year while carrying the ball 285 times and we also have danny woodhead who had the second most catches by any rb. we dont need moreno and its not gonna happen.

@RS1022 the only reason he had more yards from scrimmage than beast mode is because moreno catches tons of balls out of the backfield from manning while lynch is primarily a pure running back

@George  I agree. It's not as though it's a secret that he'll be free agent next year. Just like the BIG news that Peyton will have to undergo an evaluation of his neck surgery some time after the season is over.
