Demaryius Thomas wants Richard Sherman to cover him in Super Bowl

Next Sunday’s Super Bowl will pit Denver’s number one-ranked offense against Seattle’s top-ranked defense. One possible matchup to watch will be All-Pro Seahawks corner Richard Sherman against Denver’s leading receiver, Demaryius Thomas. Thomas, for one, is hoping Sherman covers him.

FARRAR: Is Seattle on the verge of a dynasty?

Speaking to reporters after practice, Thomas said he’d embrace the matchup with Sherman: “He’s a great player. I’d love to have that matchup and show what kind of player I am. I don’t know if we’ll match up, but like I said, he’s a great player.”

Thomas caught 92 balls for 1,430 yards and 14 touchdowns during the regular season. Sherman led the NFL with eight interceptions.

I have shake my head everytime athletes open thier mouth... pro sports is very humbling... why test Karma..... i wouldnt be surprise if  Thomas tears an ACL or get injured before half time..... steve smith has been icing up ever since he gave the same advise to Aqib Talib

In response to this Sherman responded...

"Me's gonna smack him. Me's not happy with this insult. Where'z Erin Andrews...."

sherman is a really good corner but this was kaepernick throwing to crabtree and not joe montana......  not that crabtree is the best at his position either but kaepernick was little more than 50% competions for the playoffs which aint great.

fabulous play but from this point forward we will be paying more attention to sherman's good play and bad (ie. last year's playoff against roddy white/julio jones).... too early to call him "best".

This stands out as a very tough game to pick, and one that could be easily affected by an injury or turnover. Assuming the Broncos O and Seahawks D play even, I'm taking Russell Wilson and the Seahawks O over the Broncos D, especially if the Seahawks turn Wilson loose.

Thomas was getting shut down by Talib until Talib left the AFC championship game.  If Sherman does as well as Talib it will be a long game for D. Thomas

I find it amusing, that so many purported sports fans get caught up with what's going on outside the confines of the game. Who freakin cares !  Just turn the game on at kickoff, sound off at half time, enjoy the second half, game over. Commenting on all the other non-sports issues is just a waste of time.

Manning is NO KAEPERNAK- he won't lollypop pass to his receivers--- You can bet Sherman will see a number of slants and quick hitters- before the master of the game (MANNING)  will sucker Sherman into a slant and up BURNER- wonder if SHERMAN will grab his HAMMY and skip off the field-- I expect Manning to turn SHERMAN into his own personal supply of CHARMIN~!

Super Bowl: To Be Determined

LOL

Why shouldn't a team's #1 receiver look forward to being covered by the opponent's #1 DB? There's no story here.

I think most of u have lost sight of the trees in theforest..I love the taunting - bragging etc..thats what makes sports so great.. Bring it on lets see who is better..Our society has become sissified unfortunately

we are not talking about a player beating up another player, selling drugs, killing a fan, abusing children etc

football is an intense violent game..and much was at stake in that game.. you had two players letting off a little steam at the end of the game

I love the mentality of some posters--In defense of Sherman- they believe by bringing up STANFORD it somehow prove a point of supremacy in their arguement- which is ridiculous--

Bill Ayers- a retired professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago- ( very good university)and , Columbia University - founded the weather underground and was involved in terrorism and murder-

Edward Snowden-  -  University of Liverpool--NSA LEAKER on TRAITOR to his country-
DZHOKHAR TSARNAEV= bosyon bomber- U of Mass. Darthmouth

So STOP USING STANFORD as some kind of shield-

As a Hawks fan, just wanted to say that this is a great example of how the media manipulates the heading.

Thomas didn't say anything bad or try to bait Sherman.  He repeatedly called him a great player and said if they happen to match up, it'd be a great match up.  What's he supposed to say?

And for all of Sherman's purported disrespectful comments, he sure has says a lot of complementary things about the Broncos WRs thus far.

FOOLKILLER
FOOLKILLER

Nice job trying to bait Sherman, he may be stupid enough to fall for it. If he does try to cover Thomas it could get ugly.

Peyton is not Kaepernick & Thomas is a giant compared to Crabtree.

I could have a set of these for the superbowl. Yes or no?

MrArlington

@friendly--neighborhood--scrawlerWhat did Thomas say that a torn ACL would be Karma? He answered the question with the utmost respect and I don't think you read the article or understand the answer he gave.

@MrArlington in one post you sounded nearly intelligent then followed up with this post that completely negates it... way to prove that bipolar trolling does exist.

@DanTavern Turn Wilson loose?  lol  You mean unleash his barrage of inaccurate passes on the Broncos defense?  I like Wilson as a guy, and he's a solid QB, but "unleashing" Wilson is the furthest from the Broncos worries.  You stop Lynch, you stop the Seahawks offense; that's been proven time and time again this season.

badflounder
badflounder

@joe6647 Uh Joe you might want to pay attention a little more closely next time....Thomas longest reception of the game came WITH Talib in the lineup.  He was far from getting shut down.

I hope Sherman does shut down DT.  The Broncos have no problem with that because they don't need DT to win.  They'll just throw it to JT, Welker, Decker, etc.

PhillyPenn

@mickey56 so why are you commenting about people commenting on off-the-field matters.  Seems a little hypocritical.

@floorme1955He won't lollipop the passes?

Guess you don't remember the passes that Manning was slinging against the Pats earlier this season. I'll refresh your memory, they went backwards due to the wind. Manning fell apart in the 2nd half and Brady rode em like a Victoria's Secret model.

If the weather is terrible at game time, Peyton is in for some real trouble.

drmuon

@floorme1955 Expecting a good game but the seahawks are built for this kind of weather.  I hope Peyton is ready for NY humid bone chilling cold.

JeffBockert

@floorme1955  You forgot the most important aspect of pass defense is the pass rush. Somebody is going to end up soft and squishy like some charmin and I don't think it is going to be the seahawks secondary.

badflounder
badflounder

@Matthew W Exactly.  All DT did was compliment Sherman, and said he would be up for the challenge. What's he supposed to say?  haha

badflounder
badflounder

@floorme1955 You need better examples friend.  Ayers? Reallly?  Let me guess; your pals at Fox news gave you that info?  Say what you will about the weather underground, and I will not defend them; but you consider them worse than those who sent 58k Americans to die in a pointless war?  Neither side has clean hands; your view on that issue is all too common and, sadly, lacks perspective.

DanTavern
DanTavern

@floorme1955Your analysis is incorrect. Why take a few well-educated people who chose to commit evil or criminal acts and promote them as poster children for a fallacy, then ignore the tens of thousands of graduates from each of those institutions who have led moral, productive lives that reinforce the opposite view?

And let me make sure that I understand you: Edward Snowden is a traitor to we the people because he revealed to us that our American intelligence agency charged with spying on foreign intelligence programs was recording our - yours and mine and every other American citizens' - cell phone calls, texts, instant messages, and emails unlawfully and without our permission? Which constitution did Mr. Snowden betray, because it certainly wasn't the U.S. Constitution, which prohibits unwarranted searches and seizures.

MarkBecker

@floorme1955 .. only in defense of clowns like u implyin gthat have stated Sherman lacks intelligence..do we bring up his undergrad and graduate accomplishments at Stanford

specific to what happened..he made a tremendous play..he save the game for Denver

he walked over to crabree, attempted to shake his hand and was then shoved in the face by Crabtree

actually..nobody did anything wrong..its sports ..football is an intense violent game..and that interaction 45 seconds after the game ended  was harmless..no one got hurt..no one used profanity..no one threated anothers family..etc

a NON STORY

two very good football teams the 49s and the Broncos..a fun game to watch..be grateful for that

frankly..aside from our Pacman jones hitting women in bars..I sure wish some of Bengals players showed a little more intensity

According to local sportswriters..sherman is a polite and well spoken player most of the time..hes active in community involvements

My god man ..u are making him out to be a criminal..get a life and perspectve

They stopped Lynch and still gave Seattle the largest margin of victory for the entire season.  So much for that theory!

@badflounder @DanTavern  WILSON HAD THE HIGHEST QB RATING FOR HIS FIRST TWO SEASONS IN THE SUPER BOWL ERA,ALSO HAD THE MOST WINS OF ANY QB

IN THAT SAME TIME PERIOD. DEFENSIVE PLAYERS ALL TALK ABOUT HOW HARD IT IS TO GET TO HIM WHEN HE RUNS AROUND AND IS ALWAYS LOOKING DOWN FIELD TO MAKE A PLAY THAT'S ALSO WHY THE SEAHAWKS  HAD SO MANY BIG (20 + YRDS.) PLAYS COMPARED TO THE REST OF THE NFC!!!!!!!!!

joe6647
joe6647

@badflounder @joe6647 It was his ONLY reception.  a 22 yarder.  In their first game Thomas had 4 catches for 41 yards and a TD.  He didnt exactly light it up when Talib was in

fuggetaboutit909
fuggetaboutit909

@badflounder @joe6647

I think people dont understand that demarius was catching some passes even before the "hit" on talib  (discount belly-check is ridiculous).... more importantly than talib was the fact that the pats pass rush was also lost for the game.

@JeffBockert @floorme1955 solid point,  but their line seems to be jell'n at the right time-- NO SACKS in the past 3 games-- I'm sure there has been some hurries, but Manning seems to be a a level above others right now-- the game simply seems slower to him as he reads defenses--

@floorme1955@Sportsredo@pirate@JeffBockert   That would matter more if the Hawks offense was dependent on Wilson's arm. Personally I'm looking forward to Manning trying to run away from the pressure. Should be fun – or funny. A steady diet of Beast Mode and a suffocating defense (notice how they completely shut down Frank Gore last week?) will certainly make the game interesting. We all think we know what's gonna happen. That's why they play the games. It oughta be a good one.

GO 'HAWKS!

floorme1955
floorme1955

@Sportsredo @pirate @floorme1955 @JeffBockert gee- guess your right- I mean Manning had a 115 passer rating while wilson was at 102--  you know higher is better right?

i think 55 TD passes is slightly higher than wilsons 26 ? 26??  and manning does have a lower number in 1 category-- he was sacked 18 times while HAPPY FEET WILSON was sacked 44 times- Yeah-- it may be a long day foe them SHAWKS

Sportsredo
Sportsredo

@pirate @floorme1955 @JeffBockert manning gets rid of it fast because 1) don't hit me and 2) he can't throw the ball like he used too. His arm is not as strong as the ineffective arm of Kaepernick.  Go Shawks - -

pirate
pirate

@floorme1955@JeffBockert  The success of Manning and the O line is based in part on how fast (2.2 seconds on average) Manning gets the ball out. But the Seahawk defenders jam receivers at the line of scrimmage, screwing up the timing. Manning is one of those QBs (Brady is another) who if you hit him a few times early, gets happy feet. They don't have to sack him – although I think they will – just rough him up early, and they'll be in his head the rest of the game.  This sets up like a very long game for Peyton.
