The NFL has fined Richard Sherman $7,875 for making a choking gesture toward San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick near the end of the NFC Championship game, according to the Sacramento Bee‘s Matt Barrows.

Sherman made the gesture after making a game saving deflection that resulted in an interception on a Kaepernick pass intended for Michael Crabtree in the endzone. After the play, Sherman and Crabtree became involved in a small scuffle followed by Sherman grabbing his throat with both hands and looking toward Kaepernick.

Sherman’s play and postgame interviews have led to intense media scrutiny, with some saying that his actions and subsequent statements were unsportsmanlike.
