Report: Sharks sign Joe Thornton, Patrick Marleau to 3-year extensions

The San Jose Sharks have signed forwards Patrick Marleau and Joe Thornton to three-year extensions, according to Pierre LeBrun of ESPN.

LeBrun reports Marleau’s three-year deal is worth $6.66 million per year and Thornton’s is worth $6.75 million a year.

Thornton, 34, has produced a team-high 53 points (six goals, NHL-high 47 assists) in 51 games season. Marleau, 34, has scored 21 goals and added 26 assists.

Both veterans were scheduled to become unrestricted free agents after the 2013-14 season.

Thornton came to the Sharks via a trade with the Bruins during the 2005-06 season.

Marleau has played his entire NHL career with the Sharks, having been selected second overall in 1997. He has scored 425 goals and 908 career points in the NHL.
