Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson underwent groin surgery on Thursday and is expected to make a full recovery in about six weeks, the team announced Thursday.

According to the team, Peterson had surgery with Dr. William Meyers at the Vincera Institute in Philadelphia, and the doctor was able to successfully repair the adductor muscle while also doing a compartmental release.

Peterson missed two games this season because of the groin injury but still rushed for 1,266 yards and 10 touchdowns. The previous season, Peterson ran for 2,097 yards and 12 touchdowns and won the NFL’s Most Valuable Player award.
