Free agent pitcher Grant Balfour agreed to a two-year deal with the Tampa Bay Rays on Thursday, reports Fox Sports’ Ken Rosenthal.

No financial terms were reported with the deal.

The Baltimore Orioles and Balfour reportedly agreed to a two-year, $15 million contract last month, but the deal fell apart after the pitcher’s physical. The Orioles had concerns with his shoulder, but Balfour’s representatives said there was nothing wrong with his arm.

Balfour had 62 saves over the last two seasons for the Oakland Athletics.

Good pick up by the Rays. Balfour is proven winner and strong competitor. That bag of D Rodney can't hit the road fast enough.

The A's didn't want him anymore, that says a lot.

Did he pass the physical this time? don't let him fool you Tampa Bay Rays of St Petersburg.

@FifthInTheOrder Actually, the A's made a financial decision not to pay him what he could get as a free agent. Their bullpen is deep and they had a number of internal candidates to assume the role of closer. In the end they made the trade for Jim Johnson with the Orioles. Personally I've given up trying to figure out what Billy Beane and David Forst are up to - it'll just drive you crazy...
