The Cleveland Browns hired Buffalo Bills defensive coordinator Mike Pettine as their next head coach, the team announced Thursday.

Pettine replaces Rob Chudzinski, who was fired after one season and a 4-12 record.

This is Pettine’s first head coaching job. Before landing in Buffalo, Pettine spent four seasons with the New York Jets as their defensive coordinator.

The Browns also reportedly interviewed Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter on Wednesday and were the last NFL team to have a head coaching vacancy.

I picture the scene from Major League, when the Indians call the guy to offer the manager job and he puts them on hold because he is trying to sell some tires.

Nothing like giving the head job to the only guy that made your offense look good all season.

An interesting hire, could be similar to John Harbaugh, since he comes from similar coaching lineage. It will be interesting to see who he can recruit to come in to be his assistants. He will need to recruit assistants, as just like the HC jobs it is a tough sell with the specter of ownership/management changing their mind a year from now. Congrats Michael from a proud Central Bucks West Alum.

@j7apple @j7apple And in the end, he was probably the best guy available the whole time. Can you name someone who would've been better?

@tonybot3@j7appleSurprised they didn't interview someone with head coaching experience like Rah Rah Morris who guided the Tampa Bay Yucs for 2 seasons before becoming an assistant coach with the Redskins last season. (anybody who doesn't laugh at this doesn't have a sense of humor)
