The New York Knicks are no doubt going through another drama-filled season, but as Kurt Badenhausen of Forbes reported on Wednesday, the franchise is ranked the most valuable in the NBA for a second consecutive year.

According to Forbes, the Knicks are currently worth $1.4 billion, up 27 percent from a year ago, and top the Los Angeles Lakers, who are up 35 percent from last year to an assessed value of $1.35 billion, as the most valuable organization in the league. The Chicago Bulls, valued at $1 billion, were third and the Boston Celtics came in at fourth with $875 million.

The average NBA franchise is worth $634 million, this is, equity plus debt, a figure that represents a 25 percent jump over last year’s average team value. By comparison, Forbes reports the average NFL team is worth $1.17 billion.

On an individual player basis, Kobe Bryant came in at No. 1 for most money earned — between salary and endorsements — with a total of $64.5 million. LeBron James was right behind Bryant with $61 million, and Derrick Rose and Kevin Durant rounded out the top four with $38.6 million and $31.8 million, respectively.

Who edited this article? It states that  'By comparison, Forbes reports the average NFL team is worth $1.17 billion,' If we had been told how much the average NBA team was worth, we could have made a real comparison and this statement would have made some sense.

Talk about location, location, location.  The Knicks are one of the biggest jokes in all professional sports.  If they weren't in New York they'd be in the bottom 3 in worth.

This is why, virtually every year, the Knicks are picked to be serious contenders. They can afford to buy the most press.

Most valuable team with the least valuable owner.

good thing for Knicks ownership value isn't based on the court performance

And the Cowboys are probably the most valuable NFL team...Yet both are bad teams I really enjoy seeing lose

@Rickapolis virtually every year?  Where do you people come from? By whom and when have they been picked to be serious contenders this century?  By you?

They went TEN YEARS with no playoff wins! Come on man. What are you smoking?
