At least five MLB teams still have a chance to sign coveted Japanese pitcher Masahiro Tanaka, reports MLB.com’s Doug Miller.

Teams have until Friday at 5 p.m. ET on Friday to sign and complete a physical with the 25-year-old right-hander.

According to numerous reports, the New York Yankees, Los Angeles Dodgers, Chicago Cubs, Chicago White Sox and Arizona Diamondbacks were viewed as finalists for Tanaka, who would likely command a six- or seven-year deal worth at least $20 million per season.

Any team that signs Tanaka will have to pay a $20 million posting fee to the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles of Nippon Professional Baseball, for whom Tanaka played last season.

He's already made up his mind and agreed to sign...this is just a pathetic game because they said he had until the 24th to be signed.

All this for another Irabu or Matszusaka

Yawn!

I'd be surprised if Dodgers can outbid the Yankees with all the salary they're committed. Without Aroid's salary Yankees have a lot of room to work with. But you're correct Yankees have several Japanese speaking players on top of Matsui helping with the recruiting. The Cubs might be competitive but given the same amount of money nobody would want to go play for the Cubs.

Yankees should be able to pull this one off.  Tanaka visited Yankee Stadium and felt the magic.  Matsui has talked to him about how much Yankee fans loved him when he played there, and the Yankees have a couple of Japanese speaking players.  The Yankees will also be in the World Series this year, with or without him.  The only real competition is the Dodgers who also may make the World Series.

@taiwanThe owners bought the team for 2 billion dollars plus.  If they want him him bad enough they will outbid the Yankees.  Do not forget they just in

ked a 7 billion dollar TV deal as well.

"who also may make the World Series."

What the heck is that supposed to mean? Every single team (maybe even the Astros) might make the World Series.

Way to make a prediction! Are you an economist?
