San Francisco 49ers linebacker NaVorro Bowman has a torn anterior cruciate ligament and medial collateral ligament in his left knee but is expected to be ready for the 2014 season, reports ProFootballTalk.com.

Bowman was injured and taken off the field on a cart in the fourth quarter of the 49ers’ 23-17 loss to the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC Championship. He had 14 tackles and one sack before leaving with the injury.

On a third down near San Francisco’s goal line, Bowman appeared to have recovered a fumble while simultaneously injuring his knee. The officials, however, ruled Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch ended up with the ball. Lynch fumbled on the next play.

Bowman was named a first-team All-Pro this season after recording 145 total tackles, five sacks, four forced fumbles and two interceptions.

Bowman *appeared* to have recovered the fumble?  What a gutless, pantywaist way to write.  Bowman stripped the ball and clearly had full possession - even after having his knee destroyed.  He was lying alone, on the field... still clutching the ball.  Somehow, the all star crew missed that fact, and a positively ludicrous rules loophole allowed this patently unfair bad call to stand.

Fortunately, karma came around on the next play, and the Seahawks didn't score the touchdown they didn't deserve.

Kudos to the Seahawks for the win.  They made the plays when they had to.  You can't win with three turnovers like the Niners had.

None of that changes the fact that this was one of the very worst non calls I have ever seen.

For those 49ers fans who have been here awhile the name William "Bar None" Floyd comes immediately to mind: great, young player who suffers a devastating knee injury; hopefully medicine has progressed to the point that Bowman will have a better shot at a comeback.

The fact is he is the best defensive player in the league, and he gets hurt making the best play in that championship game (which Goodell's  "All Star Crew" of course missed).

So unfair.

All the best, Navarro.

When will the NFLPA sue for this? He should have been made more aware of the risks to his knees.  Someone must pay and it is never the player.

This must have been agony for him. He is legendary already, he will come back strong I am guessing.

Regardless of the result of the play, I hope Navarro Bowman is able to play at the same level next year.  As an East Coast fan that doesn't see many 49'ers games, it was astonishing to see Bowman's capability the last few weeks.  Truly deserving of first team All-Pro.  Best of luck Navarro.

Strips the ball, maintains possession despite blowing out his knee, the refs steal his glory on the play, and then a cowardly Cheathawk fan throws food at him.

It wasn't his day.

Whatever
Whatever

There's no way Bowman is ready for the 2014 season with two major ligament injuries, especially an ACL. If he tries to come back early in the year, he significantly risks re-injury. Plus, he simply won't be as quick or explosive. He needs to sit out at least most of the year, if not all of it, and truly rehab the knee. I'm not a 49ers fan, but as a football fan I would hate for him to shorten or end his career by rushing back.

Bowman "appeared" to have recovered a fumble.

Yeah, and the sun "appears" to be in the sky.

That former official said they're going to change the fumble review rule next season. Would have been 9r's ball with review. But didn't matter after the following play.

Recover well, NB.

If you watched the play you can see how his teammate..another dopey player flying headfirst into Bowman...I'm all for big hits but some of these guys have zero fundamentals.

As a Seahawks fan, I hope Navarro makes a full recovery. He's a monster in SF's front 7 and was giving us 'Hawks fans ulcers throughout the game. No one of that skill level deserves to get injured like that. And also as a 'Hawks fan, if the report about fans throwing food on him as he was being carted off is true, I'm embarrassed for us. Most Hawk fans would agree with me that that's abhorrent. Look forward to seeing you on the field against us in the future, Bowman.
