The Minnesota Vikings are close to a deal to make Norv Turner their offensive coordinator, Adam Schefter reported Thursday.

Turner held the same position with the Cleveland Browns in 2013, and would join new coach Mike Zimmer in Minnesota. Zimmer was the defensive coordinator for the Cincinnati Bengals for five seasons before the Vikings hired him Wednesday. While Cleveland continues its own search for a head coach, assistants remain in a state of limbo.

FARRAR: Zimmer an A+ hire

The Vikings were tied for 14th in the NFL in scoring offense in 2013. Turner is widely considered one of the top offensive minds in football — his teams in San Diego ranked in the top five in scoring every year from 2007-2011.

Dang, watch out for the Vikings. Definite sleeper pick in the NFC North.

There must be something about this guy that's catnip to owners. He must be a really, really, really nice guy. The nicest guy, byfar, in the NFL. He always has a job; can't get rid of him; when he finally does get fired, someone snatches him right up.

He was the first guy I thought of for this job. What a terrific pairing this will be. Norv may be an indifferent head coach but he's a terrific OC.

Now the Vikes need a QB for him to groom and lookout North.

Never understood the attraction with Norv and landing OC positions.  His coaching results seem to be related to the talent level of his players not his coaching ability.

I am a Chargers fan, and I hope this does not happen to the Vikings.

@x72 ViQueens have as much of a chance to move out of the cellar of the NFC North as the Browns had of moving out of the cellar of the AFC North.  Browns are actually younger and more talented than the 'Queens!

@Sdwalt Actually he won't be the HC just the OC and his Offense is USUALLY fairly good.  It's his defense that can't do crap.  Phillip Rivers had some excellent years there....if only they had a reciever BESIDES Gates.
