San Diego Chargers offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt has accepted an offer to become the next coach of Tennessee Titans, the team announced Monday

Whisenhunt, 51, takes over for Mike Munchak who was fired on Jan. 4 after three seasons with the team. Whisenhunt was with the Chargers for only one season.

“Ken is a well-respected coach in this league. I’m looking forward to seeing his vision become reality,” said Titans CEO Tommy Smith.

He is 45-51 as an NFL head coach, spending six seasons with the Arizona Cardinals, leading them to two playoff berths and a Super Bowl appearance. Whisenhunt was rumored to be in line for the vacant Detroit Lions head coaching job.

Lions screwed up again, and they didn't even have to take to the field.  I hope we land Caldwell, we don't need the other coaching rejects that led their teams to worse records than the Lions (and that is saying a lot).  What I don't understand is that the Fords have all of the money in the world (just none of the brains) but let the Titans win this one.  They fired Gym Shorts and gave him a $12M parting gift, but couldn't outbid the Titans?!?  It's going to be a long off-season...

@trobbins88 Caldwell is definitely the best choice of the Coordinators out there.  He certainly deserves a shot.
