Refs missed call at the end of the Pelicans-Mavericks game
The NBA says that referees should have called a shooting foul on Monta Ellis in the final seconds of the Dallas Mavericks 110-107 win over the New Orleans Pelicans on Saturday night.
The missed call came as the Pelicans’ Austin Rivers tried to shoot a three-point shot to send the game to overtime. League President of Basketball Operations, Rod Thorn released a statement on Sunday to clarify the proper ruling.
“After reviewing postgame video, we have determined a foul should have been called on Dallas’ Monta Ellis for illegal contact on the arms of New Orleans’ Austin Rivers while Rivers was attempting a three-point field goal. Rivers should have been awarded three free throws with 0.6 left on the clock.”
Video of the foul can be seen here.
This marks the second time in the last two weeks in which the league has conceded a missed call in the Mavericks favor, after a Shawn Marion foul on Kevin Love was missed at the end of a December 30th game.
