Percy Harvin, who played in only one game this season because of a hip injury, was injured on the Seahawks’ third offensive play against the Saints in their Division Round playoff game on Saturday. But it was a hit late in the second quarter that knocked him out of the game with a concussion.

In the first quarter, Harvin couldn’t haul in a pass on 3rd-and-11 from the Saints’ 41-yard line, but New Orleans defensive back Rafael Bush was flagged for unnecessary roughness for a high hit on a defenseless receiver.

Harvin, whose mouthpiece flew out on the play, was taken to the locker room to go through concussion protocol, the team announced, and his helmet was taken from him, but he returned after missing only one offensive series.

Despite the penalty, Bush was congratulated by teammates upon returning to the Saints’ sideline.

Then, with 1:28 left in the first half, Harvin again took a hard hit trying to catch a pass in the end zone. Trainers came out to check on him, but he walked off on his own power. He was taken to the locker room, and was again put through concussion protocol.

He had three catches for 21 yards, including a key 16-yard grab to convert a third down, and a nine-yard rush on an end around. The Seahawks led 16-0 at halftime.

The Saints targeted him...obviously still a bounty mentality.

This is obvious, dude got lit up a couple times. Seems like he's not cut out for the NFL.

@DODGERFAIL2013 You are either ignorant or barbaric. Concussions are a brain bruise,  the severity of  which aren't immediately apparent. We do not know whether Harvin was previously concussed. The NFL's concussion protocol is far from perfect and will take time to fully develop but the days of continuing to play with a brain injury are coming to a close.

I watched almost helplessly a few years back when my 12 year old son was concussed during a family get together at the park. Immediately after the accident he emotionally and mentally regressed to a boy of 9 years old and slept 16 hours a day.  He was in a semi-comatose state for an unbearable two months.  Thankfully, he slowly came out of the fog and returned to fairly normal within two years.  He lost many of his childhood memories.  Recently he has had flashes of memory return to him and eventually graduated from high school a year early.

To poke fun at any concussed professional athlete shows your lack of understanding of how serious these injuries are or it shows how some in society still selfishly crave bloodsports.
