Stephen Strasburg and the Washington National avoided arbitration Friday by agreeing to a one-year deal worth $3.975 million, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports.

Strasburg had a 3.00 ERA and 191 strikeouts in 30 starts for the Nationals last season, after being shut down early in 2012 due to concerns about re-injuring his shoulder.

The deal will also include performance incentives that could push the contract over the $4 million mark.

Cool but his shoulder/elbow is made of glass.

Lol to the posters questioning player's salaries. It ain't your money, so why are you tripping on how much someone earns playing pro ball ?  Lemme see you take a paycut at your own jobs!

Is Washington souring on the overhyped injury prone kid now?  Only a 1 yr deal?  Guess they finally learned that he is overhyped and not worth as much as his agent thought he was.  Guess Washington finally learned that they have alot of money tied up in overhyped players, especially the werth-less outfielder who was severally overpaid

How much was his last deal? Wasn't is something ridiculous?

@MikeHarrison What makes you say that? Are you 100% sure that the team didn't try to sign him long-term, and it's something he wanted? He could be hedging his bets on having a big year next season and driving his price up.

@JasonLeBel I think it was 4 yr $12 mil.deal. A little less than Harper, who is on a 4 yr $13.5 mil. contract. Strasburg getting hurt really hurt his earning power and Nats used it against him.

Completely wrong Eddie. Strasburg's deal out of college was 4 years/$15.1 million, Harper's out of high school was 5 years/$9.9 million.
