Vanderbilt head coach James Franklin is expected to be the next head football coach at Penn State, reports CBSSports.com’s Bruce Feldman.

Franklin would replace Bill O’Brien, who left the school after two years to become the head coach of the Houston Texans.

Franklin, 41, has a 24-15 record in three seasons at Vanderbilt and has led the Commodores to three straight bowls, including a 41-24 victory over Houston in the BBVA Compass Bowl earlier this month.

The highest compliment: Vanderbilt will miss him, but no other team in the SEC-East will.  Franklin got kids to buy in, come to the school, and then coached them up even further.  After the sanctions are done, I think people in the B1G (whatever) will be forced to respect PSU again.

Penn State got a lot better  in hiring Franklin.  Bill O'Brien was a miserable person and an average college coach.
