The Kings are aggressively pursuing a trade for Nuggets’ disgruntled point guard Andre Miller, according to Ken Berger of CBS Sports.

Berger cites sources claiming the Kings have put three deals on the table for Miller:

  • Marcus Thornton and a future second-round pick
  • Jimmer Fredette and a future second-round pick
  • A package that includes Kings forward Jason Thompson

The Kings reportedly would have to include another player in a potential deal involving Fredette to make the trade work under NBA rules. Miller is making $5 million this season with a fully non-guaranteed $4.625 million due next season.

NBA executives reportedly suspect the Kings are “showcasing” Thornton who has moved ahead of 2013 first-round pick Ben McLemore in the Kings’ starting lineup.

Miller’s in-game confrontation with Nuggets coach Brian Shaw on Jan. 1 caused the team to suspend the 37-year-old, 14-year veteran two games and excused him from future team activities.

I hope they move Jimmer.  Sacramento has wasted the first part of his career.

Smart negotiating in that the Kings are reportedly offering multiple packages. It would be smarter if they also learned from Denver what their interests are, what they want most and why and then tailor the packages to those interests. This news might bring other alternatives out of the woodwork for Miller, providing leverage.
