The Kansas City Chiefs hope to extend quarterback Alex Smith’s contract this offseason, according to Jason Cole of the National Football Post.

Smith enters the final year of his Chiefs contract on the books for $7.5 million in 2014.

Smith passed for career highs with 3,313 yards and 23 touchdowns in his first season in Kansas City while helping the Chiefs improve from 2-14 in 2012 to an 11-5 regular season and a Wild Card playoff berth in 2013.

He does well and is wanted in KC...He would not be wise to roll those dice elsewhere.
