Canadiens F Alex Galchenyuk out six weeks with broken hand
Montreal Canadiens forward Alex Galchenyuk will miss the next six weeks after breaking his hand in the second period of the Habs’ 2-1 win against the Florida Panthers on Monday. He continued to play in the game after suffering the injury, but the team announced Tuesday that he will be sidelined.
The 19-year-old was initially considered for a spot on the U.S. Olympic team that will travel to Sochi in February, but he was ultimately left off the list, giving him additional time to heal when the NHL is off from Feb. 9-25.
The Milwaukee native, selected No. 3 overall by the Habs in the 2012 NHL Draft, has 10 goals and 23 points on the season, good for fourth on the team. As a rookie last year, he finished the season with 18 points in 48 appearances.
The Canadiens are 25-14-5 and second in the Atlantic Division. They face off next on Wednesday night against the Flyers in Philadelphia.
Medical update – Alex Galchenyuk will be out for 6 weeks with a broken hand suffered last night vs Florida.
