Bill Cowher, who is on CBS’s NFL pregame show, told the network’s morning show he doesn’t see himself taking one of the four vacant NFL head coaching jobs.

“I’ve never closed the door,” Cowher said Friday on CBS This Morning. “But it’s highly unlikely any time in the near future you’ll see me coach.”

Despite speculation that he was contacted by the Redskins, Cowher said it wasn’t true, noting “there’s nothing to that.”

The 56-year-old hasn’t coached since 2006, when he stepped down after 15 seasons leading the Steelers. He was 149-90-1 with Pittsburgh, and 12-9 in the playoffs, including winning Super Bowl XL.

So he is planning to come back when he is in his 70s? Look, the game has passed him by, this applies to all coaches out of the league for three years or more. They are burned out.

Heard he's about to accept the Vikings job.

1st order of business is he wants to change the colors to black & blood red and change the logo to a Blood & Mud drenched Viking raising the severed head of his enemy to the Unheavenly Skies. Obviously some Amon Amarth will be their entrance music.

Retreads seldom work in NFL. If I were looking for a coach I wouldn't go with Cowhers or Grudens of this world. Franchises will have a better chance of succeeding if they take a chance on a younger up and coming coach just as 49ers and ravens did with Harbaugh brothers.

The only two jobs Cowher is reportedly interested in are the Panthers and the Giants. Given Carolina's turnaround under Ron Rivera, that means Cowher is waiting patiently for Tom Coughlin to retire or get fired. Since the Mara family is like the Rooney family in its infinite loyalty to coaches, Coughlin is unlikely to get fired. So....Cowher just needs to be a bit more patient. As for the Snyder circus in D.C., only a first time head coach, a desperate or a greedy coach would be remotely interested in that nightmare. Please!

@ElvisHitler Amon Amarth would freak out the older fans, but that would be something to see...
