The University of Texas’ search for a new head football coach has shifted to the West Coast and UCLA head coach Jim Mora, according to ESPN’s Brett McMurphy and Adam Schefter.

Representatives for Texas and Mora reportedly discussed the job opening on Thursday, but Mora declined to take the head coaching position in Austin.

Texas athletic director Steve Patterson reportedly interviewed Louisville head coach Charlie Strong on Tuesday.

Mora agreed to a UCLA contract extension through 2019 in December that reportedly included promises to increase pay for his assistant coaches and a commitment to improve the program’s facilities. He signed a five-year, $11.235-million contract when hired by UCLA in 2012, and a one-year, $2.5-million extension a year ago.

When did he interview or was the job tweeted to him?

The job was never offered to Mora. More speculation from hack writers trying to make headlines.

Can someone just take the job already so Texass can stay out of the news for a day?

Mrs. Malzahn was seen looking for houses in Austin.

Well if Texas wants Jim Mora, more power to them.  Jesus Christ, have those fine folks in Austin completely lost the plot?  What Texas alum seriously said when Mack Brown was gone: "gee, I want Jim Mora Jr. as coach."  Might as well ask "what is Jim Mackovich doing nowadays?"  What a joke if this is true.

OMG did you silly folks not see Mora signed an extension? He is bound by contract.... UCLA sue his butt if he leaves now....

Query: U Texas is a fine school but why would Jim Mora be interested?   He is already coaching at one of the very top universities in the country within the best university system (six different UC campuses are currently ranked higher than UTexas) in the country.   UCLA is a superb, very highly rated academic institution with an enviable and rising national and international reputation.   It is the most sought after university in the country by high school graduates (had more applicants than any other university this past year).  UCLA has won more NCAA Championships than any other institution followed closely by Stanford and then archrival USC.  It competes within what will likely become the best football conference in the country within the next few years.   Among other things, UCLA has an enviable history of offering great opportunity for groundbreaking African-American athletes.   Over the past 20 years, UCLA has been second only to Stanford in the NACDA Director's Cup rankings--perhaps the best measure of university athletic department success.

Good hire for Texas but Mora got a great job in LA.  Austin Texas ain't LA.

Remember Texas doesn't have a state income tax as well.

Too bad the Longhorns can't have him no matter how bad they want him. Texas money may have a lot of influence but it does have its limit.

@Rickapolis Mrs Saban is reportedly showing Mrs Malzahn the house she recently purchased and is now selling at a "fire sale" price.  Nick Saban was seen in the back yard mumbling the word "stoops" while kicking at the ground.

@AlanE.Forsyth Extensions don't mean much because most contracts have an OUT clause in them. You really think  Mora  will last another 7 yrs at UCLA ?.  Its possible but, if UCLA experiences a downturn  Mora will be gone.  Extension  or no extension.

@HornsNbr1   heck, Saban's price just went down!

Ha!

did you all hear those announcers before the game talking about how Oklahoma had NO chance.

I'm not an Oklahoma fan but I'm glad they won and I hope to people have fun eating their crow.

@zekenotfromcabincreek There are any number of reasons why Mora would be interested in UT, some of which were outlined by Bockert below.  You could add to that: top rate facilities, all kinds of perquisites, a state full of football recruits, etc.  The real question is:  why would UT be interested in Mora?  I mean, other than UCLA, he has no college experience, he has zero, zilch, nada experience with Texas high school football or the coaches thereof, and he probably knows nothing about the politics of that job, and Texas is, really, a unique place.  He, honestly, would probably not be a good fit.  I could be wrong, hey.  But to me Fisher or Briles, if you can't have Saban, would be the choices.

@zekenotfromcabincreek  They would probably double his salary and the cost of living is Austin is about thirty percent of what it costs to live on the beach in So Cal. With that said, I agree with you though, outside of the money, you can't beat UCLA and living in So Cal.

@dandogwood No it is better than LA. I have lived in the States for almost 30 years and spent quite a bit of time in LA and always cannot wait to leave what is just about the ugliest city in America. Just a sprawl of concrete with some crap beaches thrown in.

@ucla2k3 You're on crack.  He's making <$2.5M at UCLA.  Texas will offer at LEAST double that.  If he gets offered, he's gone....and then so is Hundley.

@ucla2k3 I hope you're right. Would be a real step backwards for us, but also make Mora look really bad as well.

@JosephBagadoughnutz @AlanE.Forsyth   says the person who says it WILL be Briles.  problem is, YOU have no definite way of KNOWING with 100% certainty that it WILL be Briles.

And even IF Briles does get the job, you still didn't and had no way of knowing it definitely would go to him unless you're speaking daily with the Texas president and the AD.

your tool has, uh lost some of its edge there doughy

@Oldtimeduffer@zekenotfromcabincreek And Austin is a semi-sane outpost in the middle of Right-Wing Nutjob country. Although I suspect in either case, politics will have little to do with whether a guy takes a football coaching job. And maybe wwe should leave politics out of the sports story as well.

@Oldtimeduffer  Your  user  name says it all.  A leave it to beaver, back to the 50's backward a$$ loser whose brain is so small you have to label entire groups of people and an entire state with you're idiotic political barf because you're unable to view people as individuals and deal with the complexity of their unique life experiences and beliefs. Congratulations on having the lowest I.Q. and being the biggest moron I've ever seen on SI.

@BruinInSD @ucla2k3 You  sound like college coaching is just another business transaction on Wall St..  Money means everything to  many people but,its also the root of all evil.  Mora is making around  2.5 M yet Texas  would easily trump UCLA by offering 5 million ?  We  have college coaches being bought and sold like they are part of the commodities  exchange.   Texas  should make a reality TV show based on the hiring of their next coach.  Its  become a scary indictment of our society  when people feel that  2.5  million  is just chump change for certain elements of our society.  America has huge income disparities because the  1%  continue to wage war on  the  99 %.

DavidandTracyAgee
DavidandTracyAgee

@mikald4@BruinInSD@ucla2k3Well it is certainly an undeniable fact that the income gap has grown over the present administration's two terms but that fact probably doesn't fit your narrative.
