Louisville quarterback Teddy Bridgewater will enter this year’s NFL Draft, according to a tweet Wednesday from ESPN’s Brett McMurphy. A source later confirmed the report to the MMQB’s Greg Bedard.

SI.com’s Chris Burke projected Bridgewater as the No. 1 overall pick in his latest mock draft.

The news means that last Saturday’s Citrus Bowl was the junior’s last game for the Cardinals. He helped lead the team to a 36-9 victory over the Miami Hurricanes with 35 of 46 passing for 447 yards and three touchdowns.

The 21-year-old Miami native, who graduated in December with a degree in sports administration, said two weeks ago that if he does enter the draft, it will be to “finally say I reached my ultimate goal and it would change my mom’s life (financially).”

“I can make an impact on my environment, where I grew up in Miami, showing there’s no restrictions what you can reach. That someone from the same neighborhood can make it out.”

Over the past two seasons for the Cardinals,  the 6’3″, 205-pound quarterback threw for 7,688 yards and 58 touchdowns. He threw eight interceptions as a sophomore in 2012 but improved his passing this season, tossing only four interceptions in 2013. He has led Louisville to a bowl game in each of his past three seasons and helped the Cardinals to consecutive 11-win seasons in ’12 and ’13.

If true, this makes it much more likely that Strong will be interested in the Texas job.
