Ohio State defensive end Noah Spence has been suspended three games by the Big Ten for violating an unspecified conference rule, according to a tweet sent out Wednesday morning by the school’s athletic department.

The suspension will take effect for this Friday night’s Orange Bowl in Florida against the Clemson Tigers, and the sophomore won’t be eligible to play again until Sept. 13 in Ohio State’s third game of the season, a matchup against Kent State.

Spence’s parents worked with the school on trying to appeal the suspension, according to a statement released by the department on Wednesday morning:

“Spence’s parents, who did not agree with the rule violation nor the penalty imposed, were assisted by the Ohio State Department of Athletics in exhausting the appeals process that was available to them with the Big Ten.”

Spence leads the Buckeyes defensive line with 7.5 sacks and 14.5 for loss. The team’s defensive coordinator, Luck Fickell, said earlier this week amid reports of Spence not traveling with the team to Florida that Jamal Marcus and Steve Miller are the most likely to fill in for Spence against the Tigers on Friday.

The school’s statement did not elaborate on the reason for the suspension and said it “will have no further comment on this issue.”

You think it's Fickell?

The rush defense ranks in the top 10 in the country, scoring defense in the top 25, pass eff. defense 73. Fickell is the linebackers coach along with the co-coordinator with the FORMER safties coach.

Let's see what happens with the departure of Everett Withers before everything gets blamed on Fickell. I don't think Everett's departure was because JMU was a better opportunity...

I wish Fickell could get suspended for in personating a defensive coordinator. He is going to use this to explain another poor performance Friday night.
