The Lakers announced Wednesday that guard Jordan Farmar has a tear in his left hamstring and is expected to be out at least four weeks.

The injury was revealed in an ultrasound and diagnosed by Dr. Luga Podesta on Wednesday morning. While the tear is in the same leg as the tear Farmar suffered on Dec. 1, it is in a different location.

Farmar previously missed 10 games with a left hamstring tear before returning to the Lakers lineup on Christmas Day. He struggled against the Heat, finishing with three points, two assists and four turnovers. He said his hamstring did not feel sore after the game.

Four games later, he left Tuesday night’s game against the Bucks early in the third quarter with tightness in his hamstring and required the ultrasound.

He has averaged 8.7 points, 4.7 assists and 3.3 rebounds per game.

With Farmar sidelined, the Lakers are left with only one true point guard — Kendall Marshall — on the roster. Xavier Henry will be out for at least a week after bruising his right knee during a loss to the 76ers on Sunday night.
