Texas has inquired about Louisville head coach Charlie Strong for their vacant head coaching position, according to Yahoo! Sports’ Pat Forde.

Texas is seeking to replace Mack Brown, who ended his 16-year tenure with the school with a 30-7 loss to Oregon in the Alamo Bowl.

Louisville signed Strong to an eight-year contract extension in January that saw his annual salary rise to $3.7 million.  Strong has a 37-16 record in five seasons at Louisville, leading the team to two bowl wins, including a Sugar Bowl win last season.

Orangebloods.com’s Chip Brown is reporting that Texas athletic director Steve Patterson flew to an undisclosed location on Tuesday to interview Strong.

The same report says that Patterson has interviewed Vanderbilt coach James Franklin and wants to talk to Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio.

If i was all of you I would stay where you are. In TX no one is good enough for their inflated egos.

I love how, his marriage is always the first thing brought up before his job performance. Anyone who thinks racism is dead is crazy. For his sake, even though this stupid talk has cost him interviews, I hope he doesn't take Texas job. His children and wife shouldn't be put through these things anymore, after chat boards for Texas have already started the name calling.

This wouldn't work.  Chuck is notorious for keeping agents and cameras away from his team til the season is done and that won't work with the Longhorn Network.

Louisville is the better job, stay put Chuck.

Great coach, happy the fact that he has a white wife is no longer enough to keep him from getting true opportunities.

He's a superb coach, responsible for the emergence of SC, Spurrier notwithstanding.  HATE to see him subjected to the vicissitudes of high prominence in a racist hole like that.

Strong has proven himself as a winner and a good man. a much better person than than slim ball Gindy or the old Briles. But franklin is a better hire.

@TimHarbYep - the baggage that comes with the Texas job has to be among the worst in the nation. Who wants to deal with all those big-hat yahoos looking over your shoulder and telling you how to do your job?

@biasedsportsfan   people think that austin is a liberal island, in a texas sea of conservatism, thats BS.   the bigotry is alive and well in austin.  if he wins big in his first year, then the bigots swiftly become hypocrites, and all is well, until ......................    , then watch it turn its typical dixie, texas, white trash ugly.

@JEPD  First off, he wasn't at SC with Spurrier. He was there BEFORE Spurrier, over a decade ago. Secondly, he didn't get a head coaching job due to that. He got a head coaching job due to his time at Florida. Dumbass.

@JEPD  Boy you are an ignorant A-hole.

@dandogwood I like Franklin, but....Strong has completely turned around a program, taken them to 2 BCS Bowls now and was a def coordinator on 2 national title teams. Franklin? Not so much. But yeah sure, Franklin's the better hire...

Bigotry is alive and well worldwide; no city, state, or country is completely free from it.  It only takes one bigot such as yourself to post a stupid comment like  "Why not?  They have churches chicken in Austin" as you did below for people to then label the place that person as being full of racists and bigots.  But thankfully people like you do not represent the majority of people.  Not in Austin, Texas, or anywhere else in the US.

I've been reading several UT based boards and have yet to see anyone mention the fact that he he's black with a white wife.   Most UT fans like him as a potential hire and those that don't are arguing based on what they perceive as his potential weaknesses (or why they favor a different candidate over Strong).   Ironically the only candidate's wife that I've read comments about for reason's not to hire him has been Guz Malzahn's.  Her lack of a verbal filter when talking in public could become a problem.

@JosephBagadoughnutz@biasedsportsfanThis from the guy that said "the sheriff's neare" and " why not ?  they have churches chicken in austin"? You should know what a hypocrite is.

Oh and adores Jerry Sandusky.
