Although the team started 0-6 and missed the playoffs this season, New York Giants executives expressed a desire to have coach Tom Coughlin back for another season.

Coughlin, 67, completed his 10th season with the team, and the Giants finished with a 7-9 record, their worst mark since 2004, which was Coughlin’s first season with the team.

“I expressed to Tom we do want him back. I do have confidence in him,” Giants president and CEO John Mara said, via the New York Daily News.

Coughlin has led the team to two Super Bowl championships.

The team has several important decisions to handle over the offseason, including whether to re-sign impending free agents defensive end Justin Tuck, offensive tackle David Diehl and wide receiver Hakeem Nicks.

This was an obvious move that had to be made. Coughlin has more than earned the right to live through a couple subpar seasons. I'd probably bring him back in 2015 even if they had the same record.
