The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have fired head coach Greg Schiano and general manager Mark Dominik, the team announced Monday.

The Buccaneers went 11-21 in Schiano’s two seasons as head coach and were mired in controversy surrounding QB Josh Freeman as well as an outbreak of MRSA infections at the team’s facilities.

Dominik took the general manager’s position before the 2009 season, and the team has had only one winning season in that time with an overall record of 28-52 and no playoff appearances.

ESPN‘s Adam Schefter is reporting that former Bears head coach Lovie Smith is the leading candidate to fill the position. Smith had previously served as linebackers coach in Tampa Bay under coach Tony Dungy.

Bad move by Tampa.   This sounds like a change for the sake of change.  He had the team playing well as the season wore on.
