Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig was arrested Saturday morning in Florida on a reckless driving charge, according to the Naples News. A Florida Highway Patrol spokesman said Puig was caught speeding at 110 mph in a 70 mph zone on the Alligator Alley section of I-75.

Lon Rosen, chief marketing officer for the Dodgers, said he was not aware of the arrest and could not comment on it.

According to ESPN.com, Puig was arrested in April 2013 in Chattanooga, Tenn., and charged with speeding, reckless driving and driving without proof of insurance.

PRICE: Understanding the mysterious Yasiel Puig

Puig, 23, defected from Cuba in 2012 and signed a $42 million contract with the Dodgers. He finished second in the National League Rookie of the Year voting after hitting .319 with 19 home runs and 42 RBI in 382 at-bats.

He's another guy who will play for 15 years, have ups and downs in his career but be great, maybe win a couple of titles. Then all of these stories will be so much detritus, and we will talk about what a legend he is, forgetting all the horsesh*t along the way. Like Kobe's apology ring...The time has come for us to get other hobbies, friends. Sports have forsaken us.

Like none of you geniuses were ever speeding in your life. The hypocrisy of the troll still reigns.

I have driven that alligator alley about 100 times and its flat great road and late at night nearly empty so going 110 mph is no big deal. Get real these speed limits were put in pl,ace when car technology was a joke! With all of the modern tech on cars these days especially high end cars 110 is a good cruising speed. I was in Germany visiting family and we were in my sister in laws minivan coming back from Amsterdam and she was cruising along at about 110 in normal traffic the Corvettes Ferrari's and Lamborghini's blew past us. Speeding tickets are not about safety anyway they are about money!

I know many professional teams provide the service but kids like Puig really need a "transition mentor" ... he has gone from squalor to sitting in a raft between Cuba/Florida and now with a $42M contract. He is a poster child for the phrase: trappings of fame.

It's like giving a newborn and fire hose and saying, "hey, drink up."

The Dodgers should hurry up and cut him.

WTF, he makes a tremendous amount of money playing baseball, but can't get a car insured. He is done already and this is just the beginning of his downfall.

Maybe he can pick up Clowney and head back to Cuba for some driving lessons

Pick your comment:

1) "Uh oh!"

2) Heeeere we go.

3) Testing the limits.

4) Cuba's revenge.

5) But so much talent.

6) Mystery solved.

7) Passion...yes, it's passion.

8) Limos are the "coolest (Josh)."

@RickapolisIve had as many or more speeding tickets as anyone. BUT I have never drivin 100 mph---putting everyone on the road in danger

@Rickapoliswould bet money that no one reading this story has had two reckless driving charges in 2013 or within the same year for that matter. Sure we have all sped  before, but to get pulled over twice for reckless driving means that he does this a lot and has just happened to get caught twice. As the Dodgers front office would tell you, this is a serious issue and not just "kids being kids"as you're making it sound.

@Heath_Bell_ExperienceHe is from Cuba.  Oh, and driving fast does not get one deported any more than does writing a factually-challenged post.

@kj4027 But it was okay when your family moved into Florida?

@Mark112I don't think that deportation is the penalty for driving fast.

@heardhimsay                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               I'm a Dodger fan and I saw him play all summer long-he's a hard headed punk and the Dodgers should consider trading him. If you cut him you will almost certainly still have to pay him the rest of  his contract. Maybe they can still can get something decent in return by trading him.

@MrArlington No, it means that he got caught and you didn't, and this gives you the chance to climb up on your high horse and preach.

He's a dumb kid who has already had several run ins with police, and others off the diamond. A maturity check/mentor is sorely needed ASAP, before it's too late.

Does anyone really believe he has the driving ability to safely navigate at these speeds? He probably doesn't even have his license yet, which means he's already breaking other laws while driving unsafely.

@kb0617 @heardhimsay

I'm hoping he grows up (and real soon) before he becomes another Manny Ramirez ........... a ton of talent with the attitude of a village idiot.

JoeCabot
JoeCabot

@train805Now you're just making it up as you go.  You have no idea about his driving ability, and if he did not have a license to drive, somehow it probably would have been mentioned in the article.
