Former NFL cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha will retire after 11 NFL seasons after signing a one-day contract with the Oakland Raiders, the team announced Thursday.

Asomugha signed with the San Francisco 49ers in the offseason, but was released last month.

Asomugha, 32, spent his first eight seasons with the Raiders after being drafted with the 31st pick in the 1st round of the 2003 NFL Draft.

He was one of the best cornerbacks in the league during that time, making three Pro Bowls and being named a two-time first-Team All-Pro.

He agreed to a five-year, $60 million deal in 2011 with the Philadelphia Eagles, spending two seasons with the team before signing with the Niners.

At least he recognizes it's time to call it a career.

Receivers were running past this guy like he was a spectator at a track meet.

hilarious how Forty Whiners fans thought this guy was a premium off-season acquisition, almost as funny as philly fans stoked on signing him a couple years ago.

@DODGERFAIL2013 So a couple of teams made a tough bet on a former All-Pro player. Someone seems bitter.

@jamsub@DODGERFAIL2013yup.  clearly i'm bitter.  like I care, other than finding humor in chumps that were in denial in the skills of a guy 3 years past his prime.
