Colorado State has suspended defensive line coach Greg Lupfer two weeks without pay after directing a slur at Washington State quarterback Connor Halliday during Saturday’s New Mexico Bowl, the school announced Monday.

The Denver Post‘s John Henderson reported Lupfer will also undergo mandatory anger management and diversity training.

Lupfer released a prepared statement through the school:

“I accept these consequences — two weeks without pay and the training programs — and I am thankful for this second chance to continue coaching at Colorado State and be a part of the Ram Family,” Lupfer said in a statement. “I am deeply sorry for my behavior, which does not represent who I am or my values. I embrace the opportunity to participate in anger management and diversity sensitivity training. I was angry and careless with my words, and my words hurt many people. I sincerely apologize to the GLBTQ community for causing pain by using a slur without considering its meaning. I take ownership of my words and fully understand why people are very upset.”

The incident occurred in the first quarter of the New Mexico Bowl, when Halliday threw a touchdown pass and appeared to say something in Lupfer’s direction. Lupfer responded with a slur that was caught on television cameras.

Lupfer offered an apology in a statement issued through the football program’s Twitter account Saturday night:

“I am truly sorry for what I said. It was wrong and those words to not represent who I am and what I believe in. I apologize for the embarrassment I caused Colorado State University, this team & my family.”

Colorado State came back from a 22-point deficit to win, 48-45, on a last-second field goal.

With that said, the look on his face when he saw a 6'5 20 year old double back towards him after mouthing off was worth rewatching. "F*$( you you F#(king Fa$$oT"  *facemask busting him in cheek as he realizes it just got real*.

In summary...kid's a punk. Coach is a punk who just lost signings because recruits' Moms just saw him talking sh/it to kids.

Give the coach a pay raise not a 2 week salary cut. 99.9% of AMERICA AGREES WITH THE COACH.

Never apologize for calling someone gay ever.  gays are spawns of Satan weakening the world.

Cry for me Argentina, well Greg since the words are not part of you just where in the hell did they come from? The Devil made you do it, right? Your words are INDEED WHO YOU ARE, and represent the values you don't have, Geeesh

So Halliday is gay?  Thought he'd play for UCLA.

Let's all be robots! Come on, no more individuality, no more opinion of your own. No distinction at all. Wouldn't that just be great? Ok, tolerance just for the minority of the moment because they are always perfect. Judging ones right to have their own cultural perspective unless it is of the politically correct format is intolerable! We should force  ourselves to like something even if it goes against our very grain, right? Those that seek our secularization  are totally tolerable aren't they? LEST WE FORGET

Didn't hear it, was it the F-G word?  I have more of a problem w/ the fact that the dude mouthed off to an opposing team's player.  A coach should NEVER get into it w/ a kid.....that just smacks of low to NO CLASS.

Jeez....

Whatever happened to the old 'sticks & stones' we ALL learned as kids? It's a word. Or collection of words. Life isn't fair or particularly nice. Get over it, PC police!

I suppose you think it's ok to use the "N" word?  It's not just about using a slur derogatory to a certain group, it's about using it on the opposing QB.  How would you like someone to label you?

Is anyone else sick and tired of this politically correct nonsense, especially when it comes to gays?

Who cares what is said in the heat of conflict. He did not direct the comments to a gay or lesbian person. Granted, he should not have said it with the tv camera pointed in his direction. And he should have been more mature than to respond to a 20 something punk running his mouth. Suspending him for two weeks without pay is stupid. His remarks did not cost a single gay person one red cent. It appears that the ones profiting from this is the university. They keep him on the payroll, and get to save two weeks salary. How the hell was they hurt in all of this?

Fire the punk. He is a worthless coach on a worthless team. What does it matter? He can find a job with Lane Kiffin next year in Arena Football.

Where are you going with this? 1-no one can be offended because you have to be perfect first. 2-Offensive words are just part of the game "color" and should be appreciated. 3-By calling this inappropriate we are judging the man and no one has that right, says you. 4-It's PC and PC is ruining us all making real men into wimps. At no time has it been OK to run up to a kid who just scored against you and call the kid names that include a slang term for gay men and 4-letter words or even words that are innoculous such as "you bum". PC has nothing to do with it. As an adult you have to control such urges in 1930 or 2013. He publically lost control of himself and attacked the kid and that's never been OK no matter what you say..

@GETAGRIP I have a question for you.  If you were in a bar and a guy is mad at you because his lady friend is giving you "the eye" and he yells in your face that you are an f'n f***T... would you smile and let it go... pass it off as him just speaking his mind?   Always easy to have your attitude about what other people say to those you don't know, but a little different when it is directed towards you.

Literally within seconds after the Wazzo TD and the ensuing comment, there were zillions of tweets and comments made by those who clearly read the man's lips off TV. The English word for cigarettes was indeed the biggy, but it wasn't just one word but a sentence with F_G preceded by F-ing. I didn't see it, I was following the ESPN Gamecast, connected to Tweeter, with it hit, the column with the tweets was just spinning like the wheels on a one armed bandit. Great little league, recall when the now fired Dave Christensen coach of the Wyoming Cowboys had the verbal tirade with the Air Force coach, during the post-game "handshake"? The man let fly with the greatest compliment of F-ings the world had ever seen.

So in your world it's OK to run up to this guy and start screaming at him for having the abhorrence to score against you? Does the fact that he completely lost control of himself and placed himself in a place he should not have been in phase you. It's the anger part more than just the words.

@btcvsolo That "collection of words" happened to be on national TV, duncecap.

@JayReddHow about the NCAA just make a rule that all D-1 football players and coaches wear dresses?

@JayRedd As long as there is poor white trailer park trash like you around I suppose the answer will remain... NO.  When you decide to air up the tires on your double wide and stop dating your sister maybe the world will start changing and we can be done with these kind of comments.   ( I really hope I didn't offend you, I was just being honest.. and that counts for something, right?)

@DWest245 Where did you learn English?  Somewhere that doesn't speak English?  The rest of your argument is utter nonsense, so I'll leave you and your Confederate flag to your brainstorming on how to Right this world.

@DWest245What's scary is how the gay community is less than 9% of this country (with experts claiming that the actual percentages of practicing homos is closer to probably 5%) population yet they've held the entire country hostage with the assistance of their Liberal overlords.  Pathetic.

@grizzlypete Pete, I know Coach Lupfer. He is a great coach with a family. He has worked hard for many years to build his coaching career. I'm guessing you've made some mistakes in your life.

@Cool@JayReddand Cool exhibits the typical clueless Liberal hypocrisy.  No surprise.  Fully agree with you, JayRedd.

It would horrify our young clueless liberal friend to realize that people (gasp!) don't support the gay lifestyle CHOICE.  Poor kid, so brainwashed by our liberal media that he can no longer think clearly.

@RomarioDelLago @DWest245 Why do loud mouth conservatives feel that majority rules or that we must all be like minded in our hate towards those we don't understand?  Perhaps you would be more at home in a country like North Korea where the government forces everyone to hold the same views are put to death?  As I stated before, you need to mature in your thinking and hope to god that there isn't a day coming where ignorance is punishable by death.

@TCUfan @Cool @RomarioDelLago @JayRedd I am sorry you didn't catch the part where I was making a politically incorrect statement in hopes that he would see that just because you think you are speaking "honestly" that it doesn't mean it is not hurtful nor beneficial...

@RomarioDelLago @Cool @JayRedd FYI, I am not a young clueless liberal.  I grew up in an era where many hurtful phrases and titles were spewed against those people felt were less entitled because of the color of their skin or the people they chose to love.  Those of you with nothing better to do than to use hateful language in order to feel superior really need to mature and learn that your views are not the views of everyone.
