Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett refuted a report Monday that Tony Romo is out for the rest of the season with a back injury.

Garrett said the team has not made a determination about Romo’s status and the quarterback would continue to get treatment for his back.

ESPN.com’s Adam Schefter reported earlier Monday that Romo would miss the remainder of the season due to a herniated disk in his back.

Romo was injured during the Cowboys’ 24-23 victory over the Washington Redskins on Sunday and had an MRI on Monday to confirm the extent of the injury.

Romo, 33, had surgery in April to remove a cyst from his back.

The Cowboys play the Philadelphia Eagles next Sunday night for the NFC East division title. Dallas has not made the playoffs the past three seasons.

“I tweaked it in the game,” Romo said about his back, per the Cowboys’ official website. “For whatever reason, just the twist or whatever that was, definitely just made it not feel comfortable.”

If Romo is not available to play, his backup is veteran Kyle Orton, who has only attempted five passes this season for 40 yards. Romo has completed 64 percent of his passes for 3,828 yards with 31 touchdowns and 10 interceptions this season.

I hate the Cowboys but I cannot cheer against  "Joe Dirt" Orton. I love his grit. He has heart.

Apparently the weight of saving the careers of Garrett, Callahan and Kiffin was too much on the guy's back...too bad.

Damn, that's really too bad. Kyle Orton? Isn't that the guy who lost his job to Tim Tebow?

@DEJ1948 Scooby Axson sounds like a disease of the backside.

I have Scooby Axson and I cannot sit down for a week.
