In his press conference on Monday, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said he was open to the idea of resting his starters for Kansas City’s Week 17 game in San Diego.

After losing to the Colts on Sunday, the Chiefs (11-4) are locked into the No. 5 seed in the AFC.

The Chargers (8-7), however, could earn the second wild-card spot with a win plus losses by the Ravens and Dolphins.

Reid said he’s made no formal decision yet, but said he’s “had some success with it in the past.”

After a 9-0 start, Kansas City has lost four of six, including a 41-38 loss to San Diego in Week 12.

Yowch. That means my Ravens playoff hopes rest on the shoulders of Geno Smith. And John Harbaughs horrific decision making at the beginning of the season may very well have sunk the whole ship.

Won't help the Chiefs anyway, they are not a match for Denver or New England.

Good news. Probably will help the Chargers, although I never know with them anymore. Still need some help elsewhere, and I don't see that the Fins will lose to the Jets since they beat them 23-3 3 weeks ago.

Didn't the Colts rest Manning one year and they ended up losing their playoff game.

The teams depending on the Chiefs to get them into the playoffs should have won more games. Besides, the Chargers already beat them when the Chiefs used their starters, so it is not a given the Chiefs win regardless who plays.

That sucks for the Ravens if the Chiefs wuss out.

Uhh...play the game straight up, you jackoff.  Other teams are affected by the outcome of this one.

Not sure if that's a good idea.  They might need the practice game after the way they played last week.

this strategy has always worked well for Reid in the past

As a diehard but logical Chiefs fan I'm extremely happy with this season as it stands even now after what we've been thru the past few years.  That said I don't think it's going to matter what AR does though because this team is still a CB and Safety on D and a WR or two on offense away from competing against the elite teams. Having the youngest O-line is an obstacle as well but the potential is definitely there.  I'm afraid yet another wild-card loss is in store for them but I'll keep supporting KC louder than anybody and hope for more!  Go Chiefs!

@Master MSYeah, good thinking. Let's get a couple of our best players crippled for the playoffs, when we have NOTHING to gain by having them play.  Let's NOT give some guys who are playing injured right now an extra week to heal and prepare for the post season.

You think Andy Reid give's a rat's a** about how his decision affect other teams? Or any coach for that matter? Grow up.

@PhillyPenn

You mean when he took your Eagles to 4 straight title games?  Could you be more of a typical unappreciative Philly fan?  Reid was your best coach ever but you morons want to stay mad at him for some reason.

@SmoothkaosAR would get my vote for coach of the year.  KC has had talent for years but no coach could do much with it.  Not a Chiefs fan but got to give them credit.

@Smoothkaos no team is ever going to be perfect.  you always have to go for it when you have the chance.  you have no idea what's going to happen next year.

E.g.:  A hot Washington Nationals sit Strasberg for the end of the 2012 season, leaving him off playoff roster.  Did they get back to the playoffs like they expected too?  Nope.

@SmoothkaosI agree here, remember, they were 2 and 14 last year...last year, that is crazy good improvement in one season.  A playoff loss will not be a disappointment, but 2 years from now not getting to the Bowl, will be.

@Joe R2 I said it worked well for him in the past.  Do you have a reading comprehension problem or something or are you just a reactionary?

@PhillyPenn@SmoothkaosNationals scenario has NOTHING to do with Reid's decision. He is NOT resting anyone DURING the playoffs, he is resting them to be at their best for the playoffs. Strasburg decision was based on medical staff and his future. they were not going to throw away his career for one post season. No comparison at all to what Reid is discussing.
