Mike Tomlin says he prefers running back Le’Veon Bell to fellow rookie Eddie Lacy because of his versatility, according to Alan Robinson of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

Tomlin had been asked if he had any second thoughts about taking Bell ahead of Lacy in last year’s draft, with the Green Bay Packers’ RB looking like a top Offensive Rookie of the Year candidate. But the Steelers coach said the choice was “an easy one,” citing Bell’s ability to catch balls out of the backfield.

The Steelers’ rookie has 43 receptions for 388 yards in addition to his 646 yards on the ground. Lacy has accrued 1,028 rushing yards this season in 248 attempts and has caught 31 passes for 236 yards.

One season doesn't make a career for either back.

Anyone who thinks Lacy is better must not watch much football. Fat bum will be out of the league in a couple years and you morons will be stuck with those stupid green and yellow jersey's of another former has been green bay fudger.

~400 yds less rushing and roughly the same yards per catch? Mikey's fooling no one but himself.

Tomlin is right.  Bell fits the Steelers much better.  Bigger, more physical back, ala Steelers style.  More versatile as well - can block, catch it out of the backfield, and be a 3 down back.  Easy (and correct) choice.

Lacy is faster and has only 12 fewer receptions than Bell. I'd take the SEC running back.

Oh, well, if there's no question then that pretty much ends THIS discussion.

@Jeff63 Lacey played 2 more games than Bell. When you account for that both are giving you about 100yds of offense per game. For Lacey only 18% of that comes from catching the ball, for Bell it's 40% - so Tomlin is right,  Bell is a lot more versatile  than Lacey and a better fit for the Steelers

@Nine Vegetable Lacy is more physical than Bell.  Lacy blocks & has always been an excellent pass catcher out of the backfield (since his alabama days)...Bell is a great back don't get me wrong, but Eddie will be the better of the two....already is.

@Baldini1this is the NFL - what region of the country he went to school in is irrelevant
